    Job Responsibilities With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

    This position is located at the Charleston Dorchester Mental Health Center, 2100 Charlie Hall Blvd, Charleston SC 29414Responsibilities for this Position Title include but are not limited to:

    Under the general supervision of the 988 Team Leader, provide peer support services to callers of the 988 Lifeline which is housed at the Charleston Dorchester Mental Health Center.

    The Peer Support Specialist guides callers toward the identification and achievement of specific goals while augmenting program outcomes and patient success through a patient lens.

    This PSS (Peer Support Specialist) will answer incoming calls and provide telephonic crisis intervention services, screening and consultation in a culturally competent manner to support and back up the 988 lifeline.


    Minimum and Additional Requirements State Minimum Requirements:
    A high school diploma and relevant human services or social services experience. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required experience.

    If any Agency Requirements are listed above, applicants must also meet those requirements to be considered for the position. Preferred Qualifications Peer Support Specialist will serve as an active member of the 988 Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

    PSS will advocate for services requested by the patient, cultivate the patient's ability to make informed, independent choices, to set goals and assist the patient in gaining information and support.

    Provides a quality response in a culturally competent manner to callers of the 988 Lifeline.
    Employee will be required to complete and pass Peer Support Certification.

    Training approved and sponsored by SCDMH and continuning education programs required by the Office of Consumer Affairs, along with training required by local mental health center as provider site Identifies concerns with mental illness, developmental disabilities and/or substance use and refers to the appropriate resources.

    Utilize assessment information and community resources to provide information and/or linkage and referral to services. Retains overall responsibility for meeting Quality Assurance standards. Follow guideline and adheres to PSS certification. Additional Comments This position will require some work in the community but mostly housed within the 988-call center.

    If any of the essential job duties fall below the "Successful" level at any time during the rating period, the disciplinary process may be initiated.
