    Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, has been helping animals and people since 1873. Together with our community, we better the lives of animals through justice, prevention, and life-saving care. Our organization cares for thousands of animals each year—saving animals from abuse and suffering, sending homeless pets to new homes, connecting pet owners with resources to keep their pets, and sharing information on how to help animals daily.

    This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience with children and animals. Humane Education Camp Counselors will supervise children and manage the daily activities within the camp.

    Schedule: This position will run from June 24, August 16, 2024. Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM each day.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Actively supervises campers and ensures each camper is accounted for
    • Collaborates with co-workers to plan activities and prep supplies each day
    • Implements humane education lessons, animal interactions, animal-related chores, crafts, educational games
    • Communicate with parents/guardians about each camper's day
    • Ensures the health and safety of the youth in the program
    • Ensures the camper sign-in and out process is run smoothly and safely
    • Responsible for maintaining good housekeeping
    • Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the company's policies and applicable state and federal laws.
    • Observe all safety rules and regulations for self and others
    • Performs other duties as requested
    Requirements:

    Education & Experience: Associate or Bachelor's degree in Education or related field preferred. Experience as an educator in a formal or informal education setting. Experience working with a diverse group of ages and behaviors. Experience working with children 4-14 preferred. Knowledge of companion animals and their health and welfare issues is preferred. Animal care/handling experience preferred. A combination of education and experience will be considered if aligned with the position.

    Skills: Strong interpersonal skills. Exceptional ease and diplomacy when communicating with the public, staff, and volunteers while offering high customer service. Ability to manage conflict and be tactful and fair-minded. Ability to handle stressful and changing situations. Versatile, flexible, and willing to work within constantly changing priorities. Always maintain positive and productive relations with employees, colleagues, vendors, service providers, volunteers, donors, participants, and others. Excellent communication skills. Cheerful, outgoing, and enthusiastic attitude. Comfortable learning and using online information systems. Strong multi-tasking skills. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

    Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position during the shift, move throughout the building, move weight up to 20 pounds, frequently required to communicate with others, and occasionally required to move excessive weight.
