Job Summary

Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, the Director of Early Care and Education is responsible for supporting the advancement of innovative and evidence-based early child development programs. The Director of Early Care and Education provides leadership and guidance to co-design and support local childcare development services, professional learning models to support early learning and Universal Prekindergarten, and early educator workforce pathways. This position works collaboratively with school and district leaders, state and regional partner agencies, and the local community to build capacity through a culture of equity and growth, and fulfill the mission and vision of the Monterey County Office of Education.

Requirements / Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field
Five (5) years of experience leading early care and education programs

Knowledge of:
California state policies to strengthen Universal Prekindergarten (UPK) and Transitional Kindergarten (TK) programs
Current research related to early care and education, including developmental screenings and classroom assessments
Promising models for preparing a diverse, high-quality early childhood workforce
Counseling supports and resources to nurture and recruit culturally and linguistically diverse cohorts of educators serving children ages birth to 5
Principles and practices of quality assurance
Experience in data collection and evaluation process
Educational and professional experience requirements for transitional kindergarten
Local educational partners and coordinating service agencies supporting early childhood development through prekindergarten mixed delivery systems
Universal Prekindergarten planning and implementation models and practices
Concepts, principles, and practices of grant development and implementation
Community surveys, basic research strategies, analysis methodology, and assessment tools
