Description
This is mainly a laboratory research position to conduct genetic assays of honey bees.The majority of the incumbent's duties will be to participate in an active laboratory operation to support and participate in the apicultural research program.
Duties and techniques may include dissections and bioassays of live queens, DNA extractions from animal (honey bee) tissue, PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis (agarose and polyacrylamide), molecular genotyping, RNA extractions, and qRT-PCR.
Some field work is also likely in the position, such as sampling bees from colonies, but these activities constitute a minor component.
Some logistical work and coordination for a summer internship program is also expected.Work Schedule:
The normal work schedule will be five (5) days per week for four (4) to eight (8) hours per day.
