The Department of Dermatology of the University of Utah's School of Medicine is looking for motivated candidates who are interested in academic medicine to enter the Advanced Practice Clinician Dermatology Fellowship.
The fellowship is designed to accommodate one to two fellows every 12 months to provide the opportunity for comprehensive training in dermatology, to broaden and strengthen knowledge, and to help develop an analytical and systematic approach in diagnosing and caring for dermatology patients.
Fellows will rotate in various dermatology general and specialty clinics, and Rapid Access Dermatology Clinic.Our goal is to help build confident providers with effective communication skills who are capable of advancing to take on full responsibility and autonomy in patient care.
This position is responsible for providing both primary and specialty medical services.This position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to state law.
This position is benefitted but is time-limited for one year.The successful candidate will be required to successfully complete a six month probationary period and potentially up to nine months.
Throughout probation employment is at will and can be released for business reasons substantiated by the hiring department, subject to review and approval by University Human Resource Management.

Essential Functions
Takes complex medical histories on patients referred for consultation by academic and community physicians.
Performs physical examinations.
Orders laboratory tests, x-rays, special imaging studies and other diagnostic procedures.
Orders and supervises the administration of blood products.
Reaches tentative diagnosis of medical, surgical and other conditions.
Develops treatment plans in conjunction with attending physician to provide optimal patient medical management.
Participates in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards and conferences.
Assists in the collection of data for research projects.
Orders consultations and interacts with members of other specialty medical teams.
Participates in special projects and committee functions.
Problem Solving
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
