    Job Description

    This position has complete responsibility for the management and compliance of training in the transmission operations workgroup. This includes the development, and delivery, and tracking of transmission operator training programs, safety programs, associated manuals and guides. The position also keeps abreast of the utility industry regulatory requirements and incorporates new developments into the training programs.

    The position also leads the human performance improvement program for the Transmission Operations department, and provides direct support for many of the tasks and duties performed by the Manager, Transmission Operations, and fills in during absences.


    Responsibilities

    Manage the initial and continuing training of transmission operations personnel.

    This includes an initial assessment of individual training needs, as well as, overseeing, evaluating, scheduling and documenting training progress in compliance with all applicable North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Reliability Standards and with the NERC Certified System Operator Training Program.

    Manage the development and delivery of transmission operations training programs, safety programs, manuals and guides.

    Keep abreast of NERC, Midwest Reliability Page 2 of 4 Organization (MRO), Midwest ISO (MISO), and MidAmerican Energy Company (MEC) standards, requirements, and procedures, and update training materials accordingly.

    Ensure NERC and internal MEC training requirements are met and transmission operations staff maintain NERC Certification. (15%)

    Lead human performance improvement initiatives for the transmission operations department, event learning teams, and engage department members in training of human performance processes and tools.

    Evaluate present practices and implement processes, concepts, training and tools to prevent, detect and correct human errors that may adversely impact the safe, reliable operation of the electric transmission system.

    Coordinate with department members to identify high risk activities and ensure that appropriate tools and checks are in place to avoid a human error.

    Participate as the lead in formulating, evaluating, selecting, developing and implementing new or revised systems and procedures. (10%)

    Fill in for the manager of transmission operations during absences. (5%) Manage and provide evidence and support for all regulatory and internal audits related to transmission operations training. (5%)

    Work with NERC, MRO, MISO personnel, other utility training personnel, vendor training personnel and electric industry training material developers to coordinate training programs for transmission operations personnel.

    Participate in company and industry committees associated with training development and delivery. (5%)

    Manage the delivery of training on transmission operations policies and practices to other MidAmerican Energy Company groups. (0-5%)

    Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning. (0-5 %) Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (0-5%)


    Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in engineering or education in the math and science area. An equivalent combination of education and related work experience can be substituted. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)

    A minimum of four years prior work experience at an electric utility related to the operation of the electric transmission systems for the Program Manager, Transmission Ops.

    A minimum of eight years prior work experience at an electric utility related to the operation of the electric transmission systems for the Sr.

    Program Manager, Transmission Ops.

    NERC certification - Must have and maintain a NERC certification status of either Reliability Operator (RC) credential.

    Demonstration of advanced knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques.

    Management skills to direct the activities of individuals and/or teams toward the accomplishment of goals.

    Strong teamwork management and interpersonal influencing skills to build strong work relationships and adjust to how individuals, organizational units and cultures function and react.

    Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in order to systematically analyze problems and issues; identify causes; anticipate implications and identify effective courses of action.


    Advanced management/planning skill, organizational and communications skills to coordinate and conduct effective adult training in a small group environment.

    Effective oral and written communication skills to clearly articulate the key points of an issue or presentation and keep attention of others.


    Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently. Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without an accommodation.
