    Sanctuary for Families is New York's leading service provider and advocate for survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking and related forms of gender violence. Every year, Sanctuary empowers thousands of adults and children to move from fear and abuse to safety and stability, transforming lives through a comprehensive range of services. We provide a range of wrap-around services to help survivors rebuild their lives in the aftermath of abuse, and work to end gender violence through three key strategies: direct services, outreach and training, and systems-change advocacy. Our services are available in 12 locations throughout New York City.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The Accountant Assistant will support the Finance Department in routine clerical duties. This role will have principal responsibility for all aspects of facilitation of the AP checks, oversee metro cards distribution, posting of related accounts to the general ledger and associated compliance reporting for Sanctuary for Families. The person in this position will have frequent interaction with employees throughout the agency. Exceptional communication skills and attention to detail are required.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Prepare and process invoices, and check requests.
    • Verify all invoice received are correct and that the services were received and completed before payments are made.
    • Responsible for the accuracy and timely processing of weekly check printing.
    • Submit the positive pay report to bank.
    • Post financial data to appropriate accounts and cost centers in our accounting system, Fund-EZ.
    • Maintain and update files for payments documents, invoices, and purchase orders, accounts payable.
    • Interpret and apply policies and procedures to resolve errors and discrepancies.
    • Maintain, handle and distribute the agency's metro cards along with the entry posting and program allocations.
    • Correspond with staff and vendors regarding finance matters.
    • Provide overall general support to the finance department.
    Requirements:
    • 2+ years of experience in accounts payable and related accounting is required.
    • High School Diploma or equivalent; Accounting degree is preferred.
    • Knowledge of not-for-profit accounting software; FundEZ a plus.
    • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively and communicate well with all levels of employees, management and external agencies.
    • Must be able to work independently and manage responsibilities with limited supervision.
    • Good analytical skills; attention to detail with excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.

    Budgeted Salary: $ /hr ($48,300 - $53,353 Annually); pursuant to Step wage scale in accordance with collective bargaining agreement

    This position is Full-time (35hr/wk), Non-Exempt/Hourly

    Work schedule is currently Hybrid; must be able to meet job location schedule obligations
