    The Controls Automation Engineer role at BMG involves designing and maintaining software platforms for new and existing equipment. Reliable automation and control systems are crucial for product platforms, relying on stable hardware and well-written programs that facilitate easy support.

    We seek a skilled engineer with hands-on experience in PLC structured text programming and motion controls. A background in high-level programming languages like C, Java, or Python, along with front-end web development using CSS and JavaScript frameworks, is also desirable. Knowledge of IoT Industry 4.0 frameworks, Agile methodologies, and code development using Git is an asset.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Collaborating with the engineering design team to review requirements, specifications, and source code for seamless integration.
    • Designing new automation software for machine control processes while ensuring continuous improvement of existing equipment.
    • Addressing issues related to equipment automation, leading major machine development projects, and participating in feature/bug sprint efforts.
    • Conducting technical feasibility studies, providing accurate estimates for time and budgets, and reporting progress versus goals.
    • Staying up-to-date with advancements in programming and electrical design to incorporate the latest technology into designs.
    • Maintaining documentation related to equipment and programming practices.
    • Supporting the technical support team by providing software tools and offering flexible training to other departments as needed.

    This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a relevant field, with a minimum of one year of work experience in industrial manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have expertise in developing code from scratch using IEC 61131-3 structured text or equivalent programming styles, and experience with implementing code on PLCs or IPCs.

    Apart from coding skills, we value knowledge of motion control, configuring and controlling servo motors, and working with automation communication protocols like Powerlink, Ethernet/IP, Modbus, and EtherCAT. Experience with styling and interacting with web-based HMIs using CSS and JavaScript is also beneficial.

    This role demands excellent written and oral communication skills, problem-solving ability, and capacity to work independently with minimal supervision. Additionally, the successful candidate should be able to mentor and coach team members.

    We are open to considering remote locations for the right candidate, who must be eligible to work legally in the United States without visa sponsorship.
