    We are looking for a

    Materials Engineer

    to join our EMD team

    As our Sr. Materials Engineer, you will have the opportunity to develop innovative and practical solutions to complex materials engineering problems.

    You will look for new advanced ways to improve and evolve material evaluation and guide material selection efforts for new products.

    You will mentor and aid in the development of less experienced engineers and more.

    Work with design engineering and vendors to develop complex base material procedures and processes (e.g., casting, forging, heat treating, etc.) to obtain desired mechanical and material properties.


    Plan, coordinate, and execute complex materials engineering activities including documentation, reporting, publishing, and making technical or other presentations to ensure visibility of solutions in an evolving environment.

    Review standards, specifications, and other documentation to determine metallurgical and materials engineering requirements. Recommend new ways to meet stringent requirements by interfacing with external subject matter experts.

    Develop innovative, practical solutions to advance complex materials engineering problems. Provide technical support to failure investigations and bid proposals. Guide material selection efforts for existing and new products.

    Leads technical teams in materials root cause analysis and related activities. Look for new and innovative ways to use material evaluation tools and techniques. Mentor less experienced engineers and is involved in the development of their skills.

    Work with laboratory equipment vendors to generate proposals for new capital asset equipment, as necessary.

    Perform work in accordance with departmental procedures and instructions, CW policies, and safety, environmental, and security rules and guidelines.


    What You Bring:
    Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Sciences

    A minimum of 5 years' work experience in engineering support of heavy component manufacturing including joining and machining operations.

    Significant exposure to physical metallurgy concepts demonstrated through professional experience.

    Demonstrated project planning skills and understanding of cost and schedule implications.

    Strong relationships with industry contacts that can be called upon for support in the resolution of problems.

    Must be sole US citizen and be able to obtain and maintain DOD security clearance.
