    Salaried Exempt


    Summary:

    To manage the food service operation, maintaining established costs and quality standards so as to ensure superior service and financial responsibility.

    Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Chartwells/Compass Group and the School District's policies and applicable laws.

    Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; communication with School District Administration and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


    • Develops short-term and long-term financial and operational plans for the program, which supports the overall objectives of Chartwells and the School District.
    • Fiscal accountability for Chartwells and School District budgets. Manages to the terms of the contractual agreement between Chartwells and the School District.
    • Monitors the performance of the program through verification and analysis of customer satisfaction systems and financial reports. Initiates corrective actions.
    • Maintains product and service quality standards by conducting on-going evaluations and investigating complaints. Initiates corrective actions.
    • Implements and maintains sales and marketing programs developed by Chartwells Marketing Director.
    • Establishes and maintains a proactive human resource function to ensure employee motivation, training and development, wage/benefit administration and compliance with established labor regulations.
    • Establishes and maintains applicable preventative maintenance programs to protect physical assets in conjunction with district maintenance department.
    • Maintains a security function, which protects both the assets of Chartwells, the School District and the personal safety of employees and customers.
    • Implements and maintains effective two-way communication systems.
    • Implements new programs, which result in an increased level of customer satisfaction and operational excellence.
    • Attends and participates in monthly/bi-monthly directors training as assigned.
    • Attends Chartwells annual summer training for directors and support staff.
    • Completes required Chartwells and District annual professional development training modules for directors as assigned.
    • Manages in compliance with established USDA and South Carolina NSLP & NSBP guidelines and regulations.
    • Ensures compliance with HACCP and OSHA guidelines. Adheres to Chartwells established food standards for preparation, presentation, sanitation, safety and portion control.
    • Works with Chartwells Regional Dietitian to plans/coordinates menus utilizing the appropriate USDA and South Carolina NSLP & NSBP guidelines, utilizing the appropriate Chartwells Programs as approved by the School District.
    • Ensures timely meal service to all service areas. Supervises on-site, 75% of time.
    • Trains employees in proper execution of their job duties.
    • Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules and expedites workflow.
    • Responsible for the completion of required daily/weekly/monthly reports such as inventory, cash reports, production records, payroll time keeping, etc.
    • Responsible for ensuring proper cash handling procedures are followed, drawer audits are performed, receipts/change funds/petty cash are balanced.
    • Review all food and supply orders for accuracy and submit for purchase from the approved sources.
    • Manages the overall sanitation and safety of the school facilities and employees in accordance with Chartwells, School District and governmental agency standards.
    • Develops sanitation schedule and ensures that food service employees adhere to the cleaning schedules.
    • Ensures that regularly scheduled training sessions and required food safety training sessions are held in accordance with the requirements of the USDA Professional Standards and Chartwells.
    • Issues written and oral instructions.
    • Hires, trains, evaluate, coaches and discharge workers as appropriate. Hire and Discharge require the approval of the Chartwells District Manager. Discharge of a School District employed associate requires the additional approval of the School District.
    • Manages in compliance with local, state and federal laws and regulations.
    • Maintain Serve Safe Certification, obtaining re-certification every 3 years as required by Chartwells.
    • Responsible for ensuring proper presentation, portion control and maintenance of proper serving and holding temperatures, in compliance with Chartwells and HACCP standards
    • Represents Chartwells and the School District in a courteous, efficient and friendly manner in all customer and employee interactions.
    • Coordinates and executes all School District requested functions and meals that are not a part of the NSLP or NSBP. Including, but not limited to, catering events, summer school and student events. Managing expense reporting separate from the NSLP and the NSBP in accordance with USDA guidelines.
    • Other duties may be assigned.

    Education and Experience:
    Associates degree (A.A.)
    or equivalent educational experience, with academic major in specific areas which may include:

    food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business or a related field and at least 2 years of relevant school nutrition programs experience as required by USDA Professional Standards.


    Language Skills:
    Ability to read, understand and speak Basic English to perform essential functions of the job. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of people, such as employees, administrators and School Boards.

    Mathematical Skills:
    Ability to calculate figures and statistics for financial reporting of Revenue and Expenditures.

    Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry in production functions such as recipe extension, production forecasting and pricing.


    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

    Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
    Must posses a valid Food Safety Certification, as required by South Carolina Law.
