    $93, $110,069.00

    $5,000.00 sing-on bonus paid in increments

    Report to: Director of Nursing

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Reporting to the Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director of Nursing is responsible for orientation, annual competencies, and continual training of all staff in the nursing department as well as clinical students and volunteers. The Assistant Director of Nursing supports the overall supervision and management of the nursing department, assists with issues in the absence of the Director of Nursing, and is able to work in all areas of the nursing department.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Professional Behavior:
    • Maintains a professional environment in a multi-provider, multidiscipline environment.
    • Maintains a patient centered environment including but not limited to Provision of care and advocate for patients of all ages and their families based on prudent nursing judgment and acceptable standards of practice.
    • Performs tasks and procedures within the scope of a registered nurse (R.N.) and legal guidelines of the nurse practice act. Adheres to Board of Nursing regulations.
    • Is budget conscious and maintains continual effectiveness without compromise.
    • Knowledge of how to perform nursing treatments in all clinical areas.
    • Maintains leadership and supervisory skills in a professional and objective manner.
    • Is assertive in a positive manner.
    • Gives clear direction and instruction to nursing staff.
    • Objectively evaluates nursing related issues and plans interventions in a positive and appropriate manner.
    • Demonstrates characteristics of accountability and responsibility.
    • Works with the Charge Nurses and Lead Nurses to maintain or improve an optimal level of nursing objectives.
    • Is reliable and dependable as demonstrated by excellent attendance and punctuality.
    • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
    • Maintains discretion of conversation in work areas.
    • Is pleasant, courteous, and considerate of patients and co-workers.
    • Demonstrates ability to prioritize demands, work with distractions, adapt to change, exercise efficient time management, and work independently.
    • Maintains appropriate chain of command.
    • Attends required meetings.
    • Has a very good understanding of the Joint Commission standards and the Department of Public Health regulations.
    • Contributes to a staff training curriculum.
    • Develops a staff training routine for maintaining Joint Commission standards.
    • Maintains documentation of all training. Analyzes documentation.
    • Reports and acts on findings.
    • Evaluates staff training needs.
    • Submits reports/studies as needed.
    • Develops unity with staff by self example, active listening, observing, and working with staff to achieve expected outcomes.
    • Audits staff work, takes corrective action as needed, and gives positive feedback.
    • Responsible for annual training of all competencies, OSHA, and Infection Control.
    • May be responsible for annual performance evaluations.
    • Maintains employee/student/volunteer confidentiality at all times. Does not divulge information without written permission from employee/student/volunteer.
    • Oversees day to day functions of the nursing department.
    • Directly supervises R.N.s, L.P.N.s, Medical Assistants, Students, and Volunteers.
    • Initiates appropriate nursing staff disciplinary action as needed.
    • Maintains excellent follow-through on work to completion.
    • Completes work in a timely manner.
    • May assist with payroll and staff scheduling

    TASKS:

    Including but not limited to:

    Daily:
    • Assists with sick calls/staffing issues as needed. Check own voicemail and email frequently.
    • Performs staff development/supervisor duties.
    • Communicates with each nursing area at least once/day or more if necessary.

    Routinely/Other:
    • Maintains adequate staffing in conjunction with the nursing budget.
    • Fills in as Charge Nurse in the event of an extended leave.
    • Completes payroll
    • Equipment - Monitors handling, cleaning, and storage of equipment.
    • Training all nursing department staff on the importance of the PCMH
    • Training staff on the navigation in the electronic health record (EHR) for proper documentation and location of information.

    QUALITY ASSURANCE/IMPROVEMENT:
    • Quality Assurance Monitoring - Participates in reviewing the nursing department QA/QI indicators.
    • Participates in committees as assigned.
    • Goal Setting - assess professional, team, and organization goals.
    • Participates in devising, reviewing, and revising policies, procedures and protocols.
    • Assist with ongoing Quality Improvement activities throughout the health center. This includes, but is not limited to conducting Joint Commission tracers, serving on QI teams and committees as needed, assisting with staff education, and performing data reviews.
    • Assist with ensuring staff compliance with HIPAA Privacy and Security Regulations on an ongoing basis through staff monitoring.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
    • Current state licensure to practice in Massachusetts.
    • Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certified.
    • Maintains licensure and certifications.
    • A minimum of five years nursing experience.
    • Bilingual preferred.

    MINIMAL KNOWLEDGE BASE:
    • Demonstrates knowledge of:
    • Nursing principles including disease processes, certain examinations, observations, laboratory studies and appropriately applies these principles to patient care.
    • Nurse practice Act/Code of Ethics.
    • Nursing process.
    • Managed Care.
    • OSHA guidelines.
    • Infection control standards.
    • Emergency procedures.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Works in a busy community health center in a downtown business district. Long hours are sometimes required. Some travel required.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Physical demands requiring lifting of small pieces of equipment, boxes, and/or patients not to exceed forty (40) pounds. Mostly standing and walking required. Visual acuity sufficient for frequent reading.
