    The Associate Dean, Teaching and Learning Excellence will lead the ongoing enhancement of GW's programs that encourage, support, and assess pedagogical practice in face-to-face, hybrid, and online instruction.

    To this end, the incumbent will manage the Instructional Core unit comprised of:

    • The
    Instructional Technology Lab

    ( ITL ) that provides support for the learning management system at GW (Blackboard) and other instructional technologies (e.g. lecture capture, student response technologies);

    • The
    Strategic Digital Learning team

    that supports faculty in teaching with creative media.

    seeks a creative thought leader with management and instructional experience to lead this high-functioning unit as they enable curricular transformation at GW with pedagogically sound teaching tools and methods.

    The successful candidate should aspire to further elevate the prominence of the Instructional Core, boosting its recognition as a leader in promoting pedagogical excellence.

    This is a full-time position that reports directly to the Dean of Libraries and Academic Innovation. As a member of the


    GWLAI


    Senior Leadership Team, the incumbent will work in collaboration with other Associate Deans to leverage talents across the organization in promoting excellence in teaching and learning.


    The incumbent is responsible for the following duties:
    Manages the Faculty Development team, the Instructional Technology Lab, the Instructional Design team, and the Strategic Digital Learning team;
    Creates an environment of collaboration that leads to better understanding of the value of inclusive teaching and learning initiatives across the University;
    Collaborates with the other units in


    GWLAI
    to provide comprehensive support for the teaching and research missions of the University;
    Communicates a vision and plan that includes faculty development at all teaching levels (undergraduate, graduate, postdoctoral) and fosters the development of policies and programming that support faculty in becoming more informed, confident, creative, and reflective teachers;
    Works with Deans, Associate Deans, and Department Chairs to identify different ways to offer customized support for their respective constituencies;
    Develops, launches, and supports existing and new online and hybrid courses and programs;
    Serves as an active participant in institution-wide learning initiatives and committees;
    Fosters growth through collaborative relationships with other distinctive teaching and learning centers throughout the region and nation;
    Keeps abreast of and communicates about changing technologies that will impact teaching and learning.
    The position is based at GW's Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned.

    The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.



    Minimum Qualifications:


    Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 10 years of relevant professional experience, Master's degree, or higher, in a relevant area of study preferred.

    Relevant experience must include at least 4 years of senior leadership/executive level experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
    Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Doctoral degree required and 10 years of experience in instruction and higher education leadership.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Five+ years of experience managing a team
    Proven track record as an administrator supporting teaching and learning activities with experience in both the face-to-face and online format
    Leadership in a higher education teaching and learning organization
    Experience in successful management of budgetary resources
    Recognition for excellence as an instructor in higher education
    Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
    Evidence of collaborative mindset and ability to partner with colleagues
    Experience working with faculty from multiple disciplines
    Knowledge of research, best practices, and emerging trends in teaching and learning
    Knowledge of and commitment to digital accessibility
    Contributions to the broader professional community by sharing knowledge in scholarly/professional venues and through service to higher education and the profession
