    Position Overview: As a Test Engineer at SMTC, you will play a crucial role in supporting and developing functional and/or in-circuit test fixtures. Your expertise will be vital in training test personnel on fixture and system usage and supporting overall test and engineering needs for our operations. In this position, you will collaborate with the technical teams and customers to translate requirements into hardware and software test specifications, perform tests on hardware and systems, and ensure processes and quality control measures are in place.

    Duties:


    • Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software test specifications.


    • Develop test stations that best support customer specifications, considering cost as a key design variable.


    • Create, modify, or produce documentation and procedures related to testing activities.


    • Interact with customer technical personnel to ensure smooth product test activities.


    • Investigate yield detractors to identify root causes and provide data and summaries to support root cause findings.


    • Train and instruct floor support, test technicians, and operators on test hardware, software, and proper problem-solving techniques.


    • Provide technical mentorship to junior test engineers.


    • Direct and coordinate test engineering activities for the development, procurement, installation, and validation of test solutions.


    • Estimate, track, manage, and report status related to technical, cost, schedule, and risk performance for assigned scope of work.


    • Organize the test lab, order parts, and maintain and calibrate test fixtures and equipment.


    • Actively engage in and lead continuous improvement activities.

    Education and Experience for the Test Engineer:


    • M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or STEM with 2+ years of relevant engineering experience.


    • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or STEM with 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.


    • Test Engineering Technician with 7+ years of experience in OEM/EMS.


    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


    • Work independently or in a team environment.


    • Self-starter with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.


    • Strong technical, analytical, and critical thinking skills.


    • Experience with advanced electronic measurement tools and equipment for troubleshooting.


    • Proficiency in MS Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).


    • Knowledge of general instrumentation hardware and software.


    • Experience in the commercial/electronics market.


    • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Perl, Shell).


    • Knowledge of LabVIEW and National Instruments hardware.


    • Experience with object-oriented programming languages (e.g., C++, Java, Ruby, VB.NET).


    • Familiarity with databases and SQL.


    • Experience with AutoCAD or other solid modeling software.


    • Familiarity with PCB layout design and development software (e.g., EAGLE).


    • Knowledge of Mil-Std-810F environmental testing.


    • Soldering (IPC J-STD-001 certification).


    • Electronics inspection (IPC A-610 certification).
