Job Title:

Bilingual Educator for Deaf Students

Main Purpose of Job:

To develop and implement a bilingual educational program for Deaf students in a language-accessible environment, providing an enriched bicultural environment conducive to their social and emotional growth.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess and teach Deaf students using Maryland's state standards and develop IEPs.
• Create and maintain a classroom conducive to learning.
• Prepare and maintain weekly lesson plans based on student assessments and data.
• Teach lessons using best practices of bilingual pedagogy and differentiated instruction.
• Maintain grade books, portfolios, unit plans, daily attendance, and emergency classroom lesson plans.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Certification by the Maryland State Department of Education within a prescribed amount of time.
• Fluency in American Sign Language and written English.
• Knowledge of Deaf culture, Deaf Education, and ability to teach students with varying educational and language acquisition backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Education or Special Education of Deaf students.
• Maryland State Department of Education Certification.
