Division: Division of EMS

Reports to: Fire Chief/ EMS Director

Status: Full Time

Salary: $42,000 per year (Must enroll in paramedic program within 1 year of employment and successfully pass national registry examination) Pay increases to $57,900 per year.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for responding to emergency medical incidents, assisting at fire scenes, maintenance of apparatus, equipment and stations. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: educating the community through health care awareness, health fairs and CPR training and other duties as assigned. EMTs will be held to the highest standard of professionalism while performing these functions in alignment with the mission and goals of the Gary, Indiana Fire Department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent. Indiana driver's license. Must be 18 years of age or older. Indiana State EMT Certification and/or National Registry of EMT. Must pass "A Fitness for duty medical exam and physical. THIS INCLUDES PASSING A DRUG TEST. Must pass national background testing.
