    Casting Manufacturing Engineer

    The Casting Manufacturing Engineer will help to optimize and enhance the casting process and will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the production of high-quality automotive components, while continuously striving for process improvement and cost-effectiveness. The Manufacturing Engineer will apply engineering principles to design and improve casting operations and will report to the Engineering Manager.

    Responsibilities

    • Design casting processes with safety and potential risks top of mind.
    • Implement robust solutions to ensure cast quality is maintained, scrap is minimized, and defective billets do not escape to downstream processes.
    • Optimize casting processes to ensure production targets are met.
    • Assess production losses and develop & implement plans to improve efficiency.
    • Select, design, and implement appropriate tools, equipment, and fixtures to support production needs.
    • Develop subject matter expert level expertise on all tooling, consumables, and equipment spares required for the casting process and drive responsible cross-functions to acceptable results.
    • Create and maintain detailed process documentation (PFMEA, Setup Sheets, Check Sheets), including standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
    • Train team members in operation, adjustment, changeover and troubleshooting equipment.
    • Manage projects for new equipment, equipment upgrades, automation projects, etc., from developing and submittal of requests, through all phases of project management, including timely closure of projects.
    • Lead and participate in continuous improvement projects, using Lean and Six Sigma principles to reduce waste and enhance productivity; track projects to completion including costs savings.
    • Support quality initiatives to ensure compliance with VDA or IATF 16949 requirements.
    • Develop and update facility and equipment layouts.
    • Offer technical guidance to other engineers or engineering support staff as requested.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
    • 3-5 years of experience with metal casting preferred, preferably aluminum
    • Proficient in software including 3D CAD software
    • Basic Understanding of automotive engineering standards (IATF 16949 and/or VDA 6.3, etc.)
