    Description
Field Control SpecialistNortheast Region (within a 200-mile radius of the Foxborough, MA Power office)General Job DescriptionPOWER Engineers, Inc. (PEI) is an engineering and technical services company that currently employees approximately 3,500 people. POWER Testing and Energization, Inc.

(PTE) is a subsidiary of PEI and includes a Field Control Service (FCS) Department, which has people actively providing field control services on a daily basis.

These services are provided mainly at customer plant sites and involve working on utility/steam plant control systems and associated equipment in operating utility and heavy industrial plants environments.

Our Field Control Specialists average over 20 plus years each of experience with control system design, start up, testing, and troubleshooting.

They are required to have a general working knowledge of utility and industrial power plant equipment and a detailed knowledge of analog and digital control system theory used to control the related processes.

They are experienced with many different microprocessor-based control systems from stand-alone single loop controllers to large, distributed control systems, as well as system specific application software.

Most often, they are the only technical control representative at the customer site and must have the ability and willingness to provide the hands-on services required to complete the task at hand.

Their personal communication skills must adequately promote good customer relations, and they must be able to deal with high stress environments on occasions.

They must interface with clients, vendors, contractors, and other PTE employees on a daily basis.
Field Control Specialists typically are required to travel extensively.

Job AdvantagesIncomeField Control Specialists are normally paid based on the number of billable hours charged to projects/clients and are reimbursed for business-related travel and living expenses.

Company cars are not provided, however personal vehicle use during business is paid for per the current IRS allowable mileage rate (currently 67 cents per mile). As an alternative to the normal FCS pay structure, we offer entry level Field Control Specialists a base pay structure initially until it is mutually agreed that the individual and PTE will benefit more from the normal FCS pay structure.

PEI/PTE maintains a business development department/program that assists all departments in maintaining adequate sales to support the work force of each department.

Field Control Specialists are required to participate in business development activities when it comes to developing and maintaining their own customer base.

Other BenefitsPTE provides health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance as well as 401k matching and profit sharing through our employee benefits program.

Field Control Specialists are compensated for reasonable relocation costs when transferring to the Kansas City area or other PEI/PTE office locations.

When on the FCS normal pay structure, flexibility is allowed each specialist to be involved with scheduling his own work assignments according to his wishes and client/project best interests.

EducationHigh SchoolA candidate must be a high school graduate, or equivalent, with strong science, math, computer, and verbal and written communication (English) skills.

Post High SchoolCandidates should have college or trade school study experience.

An electrical or mechanical engineering technology degree and/or an engineering degree in a related field, although not required, is a plus.

In lieu of post high school study, more related experience is generally required to qualify.

MilitaryUtility-related military experience is an advantage in understanding power plant equipment and can give a candidate a very good background for learning the skills PTE requires in understanding utility plant control systems.

From PTE's experience, a military utility background alone, does not automatically qualify a candidate.
Manufacturer's SchoolsManufacturer's schools are normally centered around a specific line of equipment.

The student gets a good general understanding of the equipment they are being taught about, but PTE would not consider a candidate qualified on a line of equipment solely based on a manufacturer's school.

Personal SkillsDuring telephone and personal interviews, a candidate will be evaluated in the areas listed below.

An unacceptable level in any one area would be cause to disqualify the candidate:
