    The primary responsibility for the Global Commercial Director will be managing the global commercial activities for the business with direct responsibility for Product Management, S&OP (Sales Operations Planning) and Customer Service


    Other duties include:

    • Full profit and loss accountability and maximizing the value add of the various product lines.
    • Oversee and manage the worldwide pricing and terms for products.
    • Development of short and longrange business plans.
    • Tracking business results and making corrective actions needed to realize business targets.
    • Audit product line performance versus forecast, cost, pricing, etc.
    • Prepare product line monthly summaries for business reviews.
    • Identification, quantification, and commercialization of new products, markets, and business opportunities.
    • Be an expert on every aspect of the product including performance, customer uses, manufacturing, regulatory, safety, pricing, and costs, and act as a resource for internal and external customers.
    • Implement market, business, product development and manufacturing strategies that optimize short and long term business profitability.
    • Work to identify 'best' product mix;
    • Coordinate and prioritize cost reduction efforts with Manufacturing.
    • Establish Value Add and Profit Objectives each year at budget time (Sep/Oct/Nov). Survey demand, review capacity including product mix effects, and maximize profits within the boundaries of the Strategic Business Objectives. Develop a product by product buildup in order to manage profit by customer, region, product segment, etc.
    • Develop and manage pricing structure, mostly formula based, and understand the scope, costs, and pace of price changes and updates. Minimize deviations from standard terms to support cash flow objectives.
    • Obtain organizational 'buyin' to support the Plan. The Value Add and Profit Objective includes resource allocation, capital spending, and a complete list of costs and margins based on the market environment. The volume/price/cost mix is critical and must be optimized to gain both profitability and strategic advantage.
    Issue a monthly report on the profitability of all products and segments versus the Profit Objective and budget. This report will cover financial issues through gross margins and explain variances.

    • Ensure Product Managers develop timely 3month rolling forecasts reflecting pricing, costs and value add. Overseeing of the S&OP team to coordinate with Supply Chain production and inventory planning. Communicate key issues to Senior Leadership in a timely manner.
    • Responsibility for understanding the market trends and the impact on the business in each region, competitive analysis (including benchmarking) and recommendations how to counter; clear definition of "competitive situations" is an expectation.
    • Accountable for establishing and implementing both short and long term business strategies. Develop seasonalized budget to effectively maintain inventory. Aggregate and maintain complete customer history for budgeting purposes. Aggregate and analyze historical data to aid in forecasting and budgeting. The Global Commercial Director (through the Product Management team) must also update the Long-Range Plan, determine the programs and projects required to execute the plan, establish capital spending with Manufacturing, and establish timing goals for new capacity and cost reduction programs.
    • Determine the appropriate projects and programs that will enable the successful implementation of the Long Range Plan. Working with The CVI (Center for Vinyl Innovation) and Director of Technical Service set the priorities for R&D programs.
    • Responsible for negotiation of contracts and their subsequent management, by collaboration with the customer, company Product Managers, and business unit leaders and legal staff.
    • Working with the Director Sales and Commercial Excellence and the sales force, establish multilevel relationships with key customers (minimum 3 deep) and direct call activity at consuming locations.
    • Ensure the Product Management Team and CVI develop and maintain communication tools for the company product lines (Website, newsletters, brochures).
    • Insure timely, effective solutions to customer specific problems.
    • Maintain competitive intelligence records, including import/export data.
    • Attend internal team meetings as appropriate.
    • Attend trade shows as appropriate.
    • Other activities as needed.

    Knowledge & Skills


    Advanced degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.

    Post graduate work in Marketing or Business Management also preferred, and 10+ years in senior market management in the plastics and/or chemical industries.
