    Job Description

    Job Title: GIS Analyst
    Job Description:
    The employee will format and generate a variety of GIS products including standard and custom maps and map series, standard map templates, shape files, graphics, tables, and reports; perform data searches and retrievals. Extract and organize data; perform quality control to ensure accuracy and completeness of all data; research source documents and/or coordinate with others to resolve missing or conflicting data and other anomalies. Query, update, and analyze spatial data; maintain and update geospatial databases; convert non-GIS information into GIS formats; convert spatial data from one system to another. Develop, improve, maintain, and perform quality control processes of GIS information and spatial data; test and implement GIS applications to meet department needs. e.g. Field Maps, Survey 123, etc. Maintain a hub for GIS resources and information sharing. Develop and maintain data collection apps for the department. Assist in the installation of software on data collection devices for field staff and inspectors. Install, configure, maintain, GIS software/hardware.

    Principal Duties:
    • The utilization of GIS software programs to create, input, generate, maintain, integrate, map, analyze, and perform quality control of spatial data and arrange results in a format that effectively supports the organization's activities.
    • Perform technical work in address geo-coding, computer-aided mapping, database compilation, and maintenance; generate custom and standard maps, build spatial data layers, and perform spatial analyses.
    • Utilize GIS tools and utilities to convert data to GIS formats and perform data quality checking and correction.
    • Work closely with collaborators and other agencies to help in the design and completion of projects.
    • Coordinate annual GIS meetings for the department and collaborators to keep up to date processes, information sharing, and collaborative efforts.
    • Support department GIS activities.
    • Create spatial databases.
    • Perform spatial analysis and models.
    • Assist GIS users with hardware and software support.
    • Provide decision support for department directors and program managers.
    Ideal Candidate:
    • Will have education and professional experience using existing ESRI GIS software, creating and maintaining data collection systems such as field maps, survey123, etc.
    • Should have good verbal and written communication skills, GIS hardware/software knowledge, and GIS System design.
    • Will need to work well with others and be comfortable in an office sedentary type of position.
    • Basic/advanced programming skills in Python, VBScript or JavaScript.
    • Will be familiar with the setup and testing of GPS units, and ability to transfer data to and from GPS.
    • May be asked to provide a portfolio of previous project-based work.
    • Ability to work self-directed and independently, as well as in a team.

    • Knowledge of principles and methods for describing the features of land, sea, and air masses, including their physical characteristics, locations, interrelationships, and distribution of plant, animal, and human life.
    • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
