    Job Id: # of Openings: 1 Culinary Operations Trainer American Cruise Lines, the largest cruise line in the United States, is seeking a flexible and dynamic individual in the delivery of training to culinary staff at our Training Center in Salt Lake City, UT. This candidate must be able to work both autonomously and in a team environment in conjunction with home office goals and directives. They will also reinforce American Cruise Lines standard operating procedures, and shipboard responsibilities. This position reports directly to the Culinary Development Supervisor. Responsibilities:
  • Conduct engaging instructor-led training sessions for all culinary staff under the guidance of the Development and Hotel Operations Teams.
  • Ensure training follows all company Standard Operating Procedures and regulations set forth by Food and Drug Administration, US Public Health, US Coast Guard, and other regulatory organizations.
  • Incorporate a cross-modal teaching approach to assist trainees with differing educational experiences, experiential backgrounds, and learning styles to assist them in meeting job expectations.
  • Provide trainees clear communication regarding training schedule and expectations, including travel and training center policies.
  • Assess trainees through performance evaluations to ensure individuals are performing their responsibilities in accordance with training and company standards.
  • Collaborate with the Development and Hotel Operations Teams to audit internal culinary procedures and training that will facilitate cross-training.
  • Assist in the development of curriculum designed towards culinary employees for their orientation, in-job, and recurring trainings.
  • Provide support and mentoring for new training employees and identify areas where improvements are needed.
  • Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in learning and development, customer service, hospitality, or similar field.
  • Preferred 2-4 years of culinary management experience at a full-service hotel, resort, country club or cruise ship.
  • Culinary Arts degree is preferred.
  • In lieu of culinary experience, 2-4 years of restaurant management experience including both front of house and back of house operations.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to prioritize, delegate tasks and set goals for productivity.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and creativity to identify newfound ways to accommodate the learning needs of diverse learners.
  • Experience with public speaking and instructional training including presenting in a formal classroom style setting.
  • Effective communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to inspire and engage learners.
  • Good research skills to perform advanced and analytical research to find reliable and relevant content for the learner.
  • High empathy skills and understanding of effective teaching methodologies and the willingness to keep abreast of new techniques in teaching.
  • Working knowledge in computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, Teams, Zoom).

  • Work Environment:
  • Ability to work in-person at our Training Center in Salt Lake City, UT.
  • Required travel typically 10-20% of the time; however, additional travel may be required based upon company needs.
  • Must be able to travel to the Training Center in Connecticut, or various locations around the country on board our fleet of ships, as needed to conduct training sessions.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and/or autonomously when necessary.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with a demanding time schedule.
