    Located in the beautiful Pacific Northwest on the Puget Sound, in Washington State, Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) is near the city of Lakewood, 10 minutes from Tacoma and 20 minutes from Olympia, the state capitol.

    Responsibilities


    POSITION DUTIES:

    • Directly supervises approximately 10 employees engaged in nursing work. Plans and schedules work to be accomplished by subordinates. Provides subordinates the requirements and descriptions of the work to be performed and tracks progress. Sets priorities and quarterly and annual goals. Resolves work problems presented by subordinates and recommends or implements ways to improve production/quality of work in the unit. Prepares performance standards and evaluates performance of subordinates. Interviews candidates for positions in the organization, making or approving selections for non-supervisory positions. Makes recommendations for employee promotions or reassignments. Hears and resolves complaints from employees, referring more serious complaints to a higher level supervisor. Gives advice, counsel, and instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters. Effects minor disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands, recommending other action in more serious cases. Identifies developmental and training needs of employees and provides or arranges for needed training. Supports Equal Employment Opportunity and other management programs.
    • Provides nursing care to out-patients critically ill with cancer, benign and malignant blood disorders along the disease continuum from newly diagnosed through end of life care. Administers and monitoring of antineoplastic agents and other supportive medication. Assists physicians with administration into the spinal fluid (intrathecal). Ensures appropriate monitoring of patients for acute treatment complications. Counsels patients and family members concerning protocols, anticipated results, procedures to be performed, possible complications, and subsequently monitors patients during chemotherapy treatments.


    Coordinates all aspects of pre-and post-chemotherapy care; performs variety of procedures, and works collaboratively with medical staff in major research protocols.

    Assists with orientation and training of nurses, and technicians.

    Interprets and reports abnormal diagnostic data and changes in signs or symptoms, and identifies need for follow-up or immediate attention.

    Initiates or coordinates appropriate referrals.

    Develops nursing plans of care for patients as deemed appropriate; performs nursing assessment of the patient's condition, nursing diagnosis, and formulates and adjusts nursing plan of care to include nursing orders according to patient's evolving condition.

    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    US Citizenship required

    At least one year of licensed clinical experience AFTER licensure as a registered nurse at the time of application
