    Required Education/Degree:

    Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology or related fields of science from an accredited institution which includes a minimum 12 semester hours of chemistry preferably including at least one course of organic chemistry.

    Must have proof of degree or official transcripts meeting requirements.

    Position

    Summary:
    The primary functions are to perform technical activities in the laboratory related to tests on human specimens

    and to record laboratory data while working under the technical oversight of a California-licensed Clinical

    Laboratory Scientist.


    Essential Job Duties:

    • Assists in specimen testing under direct and constant supervision according to established procedures,
    working under the technical oversight of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist and in compliance with CA

    regulatory restrictions. Uses automated and/or digital devices such as timers or thermometers in

    performing tasks.


    • Records dates of receipt, in use, and expiration for all reagents, kits, controls, and standards used for
    assigned assays. Ensures material used is not expired prior to use.


    • Pipettes using pre-set devices, calibrated and approved automatic devices or fixed volume dispensers.
    • Performs, under direct supervision, preventative maintenance (PM) on equipment, documents PM
    appropriately, makes minor repairs and immediately contacts appropriate personnel for problems

    requiring more complex repairs.


    • Develops an ever-increasing understanding of laboratory medicine and the clinical significance of
    laboratory results.


    • Adheres to the standard operating procedures and safety requirements of Esoterix, CLIA, CAP and other
    regulatory bodies.


    • Documents all activities as necessary using good documentation practices (Examples include preventative
    maintenance logs, instrument function checks, troubleshooting, and quality control) to ensure regulatory

    compliance.


    • Follows any other job-related instructions and performs any other job related duties requested by department
    management.


    Summary:
    The main function of a lab technician is to perform pre-analytical testing on patient samples under the direct and constant supervision of a medical technologist


    Job responsibilities:
    Set up, maintain and clean working areas. Aliquot patient samples using pre-calibrated pipetting devices. Aliquot reagents using automated liquid handling devices. Review and resolve pending and overdue testing. Build batches of aliquoted patient samples for analysis. Maintain and clean laboratory equipment used in processing including performing preventative maintenance in accordance with standard operating procedures. Reset and resolve errors caused by equipment failures.


    Skills:
    Verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and problem solving skills. Basic ability to work independently and manage on time. Basic knowledge of the information and techniques needed to locate and resolve problem specimens. Basic ability to analyze data and accurately document and record data.


    Education/Experience:

    Bachelor's degree in chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory sciences or medical technology or related fields of science from an accredited institution which includes a minimum of 12 semester hours of chemistry preferably including at least one course of organic chemistry.
