    Description

    The MRI Research Spec-Cardiology will perform a variety of high quality Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging exams for both clinical and investigational purposes while providing excellent patient care. Will articipate in interventional and diagnostic Cardiac MR research development, as well as the development of safe interventional cardiac research policy and procedures. MRI technologist to support clinical and research components for cardiac MRI.. Will aso perform other (non-cardiac) MRI exams as needed.

    Qualifications:
    Minimum Work Experience
    2 years At least 2 years of clinical MR imaging experience in a hospital or out-patient environment. Prior pediatric or cardiac imaging experience preferred. Experience in cardiac catheterization or hybrid MRI lab environment preferred. .

    Required Skills/Knowledge
    Demonstrates appropriate patient care, technical, procedural and evaluation skills. Ability to use MS Office (Word, Power Point, and Excel) required. Demonstrates proficiency to perform a variety of clinical and research cardiac MR procedures independently, consistently and effectively. Demonstrates proficiency to perform image-guided cardiac intervention procedures. Demonstrates skillful operation of imaging equipment and related components. Demonstrates good judgment when correlating patient history with scanning protocols. Possesses adequate knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy. Familiarity with contrast medications used for MR exams. Demonstrable ability to coordinate IRB projects in conjunction with PI. Must be flexible and be able to function in highly stressful & fast-paced operative environments. Excellent professional communication skills - both oral and written.
    Experience with human subject research and protocols preferred. Experience with literature searches and scientific writing preferred.

    Functional Accountabilities
    Research

    • Assist the faculty to develop, enhance and maintain cardiac research initiatives.
    • Ensure adherence to all aspects of human subject research standards and protocols.
    • Attend on-site and off-site Cardiac MR research sessions and conferences.
    • Assit to collect and develop data for interventional and diagnostic cardiac research.
    • Assist researchers with development of new devices, protocols, etc.; assist with development of publications.
    • Assist with development of multi-center conference educational material; be able to present at local, national, or international conferences.
    Quality Control
    • Verify exam requests with patient information; ensure exam images have the correct patient data.
    • Follow correct procedures regarding warm-up, phantom scanning and shut-down of equipment; trouble shoot and recognize equipment malfunctions.
    • Check exam orders and exam charges for accuracy; completes RIS assignments accurately and in a timely manner; verify exams are loaded onto Picture Archival Communication System (PACS).
    • Acknowledge and respond to performance improvement feedback from Radiology Faculty.
    • Track and record scanner data to meet American College Radiology (ACR) requirements.
    • Perform all exams in an efficient manner, with the ability to recognize when to make scan sequence adjustments to enhance images.
    Patient Care
    • Ensure the cleanliness of scanners and exam rooms; patient exam related items are stocked and prepared in advance to facilitate efficiency.
    • Introduce self and role to patient; communicate and explain exam procedures to patients/parents; communicate with patient/parent throughout the exam and visit to MR Department; discharge patient/parent with appropriate follow-up information.
    • Report patient/family customer service issues to MR Manager in a timely manner.
    • Confer with faculty and colleagues when confronted with an unfamiliar problem.
    • Inquire about menstrual status and possibility of pregnancy for female adolescents and teens.
    Patient and Environment Safety
    • Adhere to all OSHA regulations, including no eating or drinking in designated patient care areas.
    • Adhere to ACR MR Safety guidelines relating to all MR Safety Zones; research implant devices to determine MR safety designation.
    • Ensure Time Outs are conducted for patient, staff and equipment before advancing to Zone Three (3).
    • Perform implant, ferrous metal and clinical safety checks for every patient.
    • Immediately report scanner or room equipment malfunctions to MR Physicist, scanner Field Engineers and/or CN Engineering Department.
    • Complete annual MR Safety course in CHEX; biennially update CPR certification as required; complete mandatory annual reviews on CHEX; participate in performance improvement projects.
    • Actively promote hybrid catheterization/Cardiac MR lab safety procedures and protocols.
    Professional Development
    • Maintain Primary R.T.(R) (ARRT) and Post-Primary (MR) Certification.
    • Attend seminars and in-services sponsored by Radiology Department, Cardiology Division, or Children's National.
    • Provide leadership to the modality with regard to patient care, customer service and new technology.
    • Participate in Quality Assurance Initiatives to enhance MR service.
    • Effective user of Microsoft Office and Outlook Programs.
    • Will need to communicate effectively with patients, researchers, physicians, scientists, physicists, equipment vendors, field service engineers, and NIH staff
    Daily Work Flow
    • Monitor exam orders to identify opportunities to perform exams.
    • Monitor adherence to research-specific documentation and requirements prior to performing exams.
    • conduct daily huddles with staff to discuss patient flow and other issues; review exam schedule to verify that orders, protocol and exams are accurately assigned.
    • Track data related to research under guidance of physicians and/or Principal Investigators.
    • Consistent email review for department and hospital operation updates.
    • Communicate with colleagues in a collaborative manner to promote a positive work environment.
