    Job Summary

    This position will require expert knowledge of the designs, industry standards, operation, protection and testing/commissioning of rotating electrical machinery (motors/generators), power switchboards (11kVAC and lower AC voltages), protection and control equipment (circuit breakers, relays, fuses, PLCs, etc.), variable frequency drives (VFD), DC bus voltage regulation, UPSs, Energy Storage systems, Profibus/Profinet communication systems fitted onboard Transocean vessels. Requires having the ability to run & review power systems analysis, including (but not limited to) Short-Circuit, Protective Devices Coordination, Dynamic Stability, Arc-Flash, Harmonic studies.

    Job Description

    Roles/Responsibilities:

    • Will be responsible to produce Transocean Technical Bulletins (TIB) which will detail the Job Description required to implement the applicable OEM issued bulletins or other actions approved by Transocean Engineering management as required to be distributed as TIB to applicable rigs within Transocean's fleet. This work will include the review and development of rig procedures.
    • Provide engineering recommendation and produce required documentation (e.g.: drawings, schematic and one-line diagrams, functional specifications, installation/troubleshooting/maintenance procedures, work-packs, power systems analysis) for closing assigned REAs. This also includes Upgrade and/or Newbuild project support as per assigned REAs.
    • Will be responsible for closing in a timely manner the Requests for Engineering Action (REA) assigned to him/her. This work will include existing equipment/systems design review, produce drawings and documentation packages for new or upgrades to onboard equipment/systems, liaise with OEM for the development of new or upgrades equipment/systems, liaise with OEMs and provide active support in bug-fixes or required corrective actions, develop scope of works, liaise with Operations electrical/drilling teams and Projects teams for the development of the work scopes. Work with OEM to review and recommend SW code updates/upgrades and provide expertise on applicability to Transocean existing fleet.
    • Travel to offshore vessels, to shore based OEMs facilities or to shipyards to discuss/inspect equipment/system design/operation and to lead testing activities (annual trials, commissioning of new/upgrades equipment, FATs, customer acceptance).
    • Will be available to provide 24hrs assistance to Technical Field Support in investigation of equipment/system failure to prevent or minimize down-time.
    • Will be available to travel on an 'as needed basis's to offshore operating vessels and/or to onshore to vendor facilities or shipyards to lead testing, discuss design requirements and assist/advise with equipment/systems maintenance, troubleshooting and operation.
    • Will participate and provide technical assistance in Incident Review and Investigation (CATs, AARs, OERs, TFS tickets).
    • Will provide expert advice on equipment obsolescence, overhaul and exchanges plans to relevant departments within Transocean.
    • Will actively research and engage with OEMs to gather knowledge on new products and technologies and be able to advise on applicability to Transocean's fleet.
    • Produce Transocean Technical Bulletins (TIB).
    • Will support the Marketing department, review proposals/requirements and provide technical recommendations.
    • This position will also require very strong inter-personal, analytical and technical skills as well as very strong time-management skills – proven ability to work on multiple projects while addressing ad-hoc top priority incident investigation in a fast-paced environment is essential.

    Education:

    • Bachelor's Degree -Electrical Engineering or similar

    Experience:

    • years in related field; Offshore experience and expert knowledge of rotating machinery, power systems control and protection.

    Pre-Requisite/ Qualifications:

    • Must successfully complete pre-employment drug screen.

    • Must successfully complete pre-employment background check.

    Additional Requirements:

    • Requires Offshore travel.
