    Summary:

    This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.

    The amount awarded (up to $200,000) and the length of time you can participate (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

    Responsibilities

    • Direct oversight and responsible and accountable for the Buffalo VA Operating Room theater of operations designated first-line supervisory authority and responsible and accountable for all Registered Nurses, Surgical Technicians and Nursing Assistants assigned to the Operating Room nursing team.
    • Direction and supervision of Operating Room staff including but not limited to specific orientation, competency, training, development, and performance.
    • Applying current Association of peri-Operative Registered Nurses (AORN) Standards in practice and oversight in the Operating Room.
    • Ensuring compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards.

    You will work directly with OR Supply Chain/Logistics team staff, Implant Management staff and sterile supply/processing staff regarding processing of sterile equipment.

    Influencing care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes.

    Providing coverage for other NMs as needed.

    Adhering to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels.

    Equipping staff with tools for culturally competent care and promoting a culture of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes.

    Cultivating alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence.

    Contributing to the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence-based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care.

    Aligning nursing/clinical objectives with organizational strategic outcomes, participating in strategy planning and execution.

    Providing peers with informal constructive feedback for improvement.

    Supporting colleagues and other nurses through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality nursing care.

    Fostering a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals.

    Partnering with others to effect change and produce optimal outcomes.

    Evaluating outcomes of evidence-based decisions and practice changes for individuals, groups, and populations.

    Requirements

    U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

    Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.

    Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
