Job Summary:

Due to expansion, HonorBridge is in need of a Surgical Tissue Specialist to operate in our new facility in Chapel Hill. The Surgical Tissue Specialist plays a crucial role in the surgical recovery of donated tissue within an operating room environment. The ideal candidate possesses 1 year of medical experience, exudes passion for positively impacting the lives of others, and is open to on-the-job training that encompasses various team roles. This position offers a pathway to kickstart a new career journey in Organ and Tissue Donation. EMTs, EMS personnel, Paramedics, Surgical Technologists / Technicians, Patient Care Technicians, Operating Room Technicians, and other healthcare professionals eager to make a daily impact are strongly encouraged to submit their application.

Shift hours: Night shift from 7:00pm-7:00am /9:00pm-7:00am with paid shift differential. Surgical Tissue Specialists follow 3 or 4-day work weeks with no on-call duties.

What You'll be Doing:

Recovery Specialist

Execute tissue recovery procedures in an operating room setting.
Showcase and acquire proficiency in aseptic and surgical techniques.
Demonstrate adeptness in utilizing surgical instruments and equipment.
Prepare the operating room ensuring accurate supplies are utilized for each specific tissue recovery.
Monitor inventory levels and maintain an orderly supply storage area.
Conduct regular cleaning of clinical spaces.
Perform pre and post-cleaning of the operating room.

OR Lead

Collaborate professionally with the recovery team.
Work collectively to achieve optimal efficiency and teamwork.
Package recovered tissue aseptically and arrange for shipment.
Conduct additional tissue recoveries such as aortic iliac and heart for valve tissues.
Thoroughly and accurately document cases.
Adhere to follow-up protocols as per established guidelines.
Ensure timely and accurate completion of case-related paperwork and data entry.

Donation Coordinator

Oversee the entire Tissue Donation process.
Effectively communicate with hospitals, funeral homes, transporters, and partners.
Coordinate with the Tissue Administrator on Call, Call Center, and Recovery Teams.
Handle packing and shipment of supplies, as well as provide assistance in the operating room.
Adhere to quality assurance policies and procedures.
Maintain organized donor documentation and material records.
Utilize EMR systems for uploading donor medical records.
Maintain EMR access to relevant hospital information.
Utilize remote EMR access for gathering and reviewing medical records.
Prioritize the confidentiality of patient and donor/recipient information.

Additional Responsibilities:

Participate in team meetings, educational opportunities, and skills enhancement workshops.
Utilize various technologies including Microsoft software, donation software, copiers/fax machines, and EMR systems.
Assist in training and mentoring fellow team members.
Engage in projects for process improvement and implement lean tools for enhancing the tissue donation process.

Physical Requirements:

Lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring donors and/or supplies < 20lbs: Over 65% of the time.
Lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring donors and/or supplies < 50lbs: Less than 35% of the time.
Lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring donors and/or supplies < 100lbs: Less than 35% of the time.

Work Environment:

Extended periods of sitting and standing.
Occasional travel within the service area may be required.

What we are seeking:

1 year of clinical experience.
Background in surgical technology or experience as a Surgical Technologist / Technician, Patient Care Technician, or Operating Room Technician is preferred.
An associate degree with a healthcare focus is highly preferred.
Requirement to obtain CTBS certification within 2 years of completing training.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Proficiency in medical terminology.
Ability to thrive in high-pressure environments.
Experience in form completion and documentation.
Must hold a valid state driver's license.
