    Description
    Provides direct and indirect patient care services that meet the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care; meets the communication needs of patient and family; provides care that reflects initiative and responsibility indicative of professional expectations, under the supervision of a registered nurse. Maintains regulatory agency requirements, nursing and hospital policies, procedures and standards. Communicates with physicians and team members about changes in patient's clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision.

    Requirements

    Minimum Qualification:
    • Graduate of an accredited School of Vocational Nursing
    • Current licensure by the Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners of the State of Texas with renewal as required by law
    • Current BLS or ACLS certification
    Position Description:
    • Current knowledge and skills appropriate to the age and type of population served.
    • Knowledge and sensitive to patient's rights in the delivery of care.
    • Communicates in a clear, concise and understandable manner.
    • Recent appropriate nursing practice in the patient populations served.
    • Participates in development, interpretation, implementation, evaluation and documentation of plan of care for each patient under the nursing process.
    • Under the leadership of an RN, begins a focused assessment of patient and initiates patient admission data base.
    • Provides skilled and safe nursing care to assigned patients.
    • Assists physicians with examination/treatments.
    • Recognizes and refers complex problems to RN.
    • Follows through on predictable problems.
    • Provides safe patient care.
    • Participates in patient care conferences.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of normal limits of vital signs and commonly used lab tests by reporting abnormal findings and reports them to the lead nurse/designee.
    • Demonstrates an understanding of the medical plan of care and ensures that physician orders are implemented promptly and accurately. Reviews physicians' orders as written.
    • Documents nursing assessments and interventions accurately, clearly and concisely according to the unit standard.
    • Evaluates and documents in the patient record response to nursing interventions.
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Previous experience in general nursing preferred; knowledge of general practice medicine and medical terminology; standard diagnostic and medical equipment and instruments; applicable federal and state regulations and requirements; basic Microsoft office computer skills or ability to learn such skills.

    Additional Requirements with or without Reasonable Accommodation:

    Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, communicate in English, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry over 100 lbs, perceive depth.

    Conditions include working inside, working around machines with moving parts and moving objects, radiant and electrical energy, working closely with others, working alone, working protracted or irregular hours. Exposure to body fluids and/or infection from disease-bearing specimens, exposure to chemicals/biohazardous/radioactive substances, exposure to explosive/flammable chemicals or gases, exposure to patient/visitors under a wide variety of circumstances.

    Mental demands include; alertness, analytic ability, memory, concentration, judgment, initiative, precision, creativity and communication.
