Description Overview: The professional tutor will work with individual students and groups of students to determine levels of understanding, answer questions, and help students to understand subject matter.

Job duties:

•Complete required tutor training.

•Provide tutoring services in a one-on-one and group setting.

•Help students clarify course expectations and prepare for tests.

•Share strategies for student success during tutoring sessions.

•Tidy work areas.

•Maintain electronic records.

•Assist with departmental duties and workshops as assigned (may include proctoring exams and/or assisting with front desk duties)

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

•Strong interpersonal skills.

•Excellent customer service skills.

•Ability to maintain confidentiality.

•Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse student population verbally and in writing.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in the areas related to student success: academic support, disability services, diversity and inclusion
• Computer literacy including Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with database management
• Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the interests of historically underrepresented groups.
• Two years of college or experience working in higher education or closely related field preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Work is performed in a normal office setting, in an open reception area. Travel between buildings on campus is possible; occasional weekend and evening work during can be expected. Deadlines, disturbances of workflow, and/or irregularities in work schedule are expected and occur on an intermittent basis.
