    Qualifications & Requirements

    Minimum 1 year of recent cardiovascular surgical experience required

    Proven experience with heart surgery, VATS, and vascular procedures

    Vein harvesting experience required

    Active BLS certification

    Valid Virginia surgical assistant licensure

    Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology and Surgical Assistant program

    Surgical Assistants with 2+ years of SFA experience (not currently certified) must obtain certification within 6 months of hire

    New graduates from a Certified Surgical First Assist school must obtain certification within 1 year

    Completion of Medical Staff privileging process required (application fee applies; 4–6 weeks)

    Key Responsibilities

    Assist surgeons in CVOR procedures:
    patient positioning, retraction, suturing, dressing application, and skin closure

    Prepare and set up the operating room with necessary surgical equipment

    Maintain strict sterile technique throughout all procedures

    Support room turnover and restock surgical supplies

    Collaborate with charge nurse for assignments and serve as a clinical resource

    Maintain current certification as a surgical assistant
