ENGAGE IN OPERATIONS
Ensure that instrument maintenance and/or function checks are performed and documented.
Troubleshoot instrument malfunctions and inform the Laboratory Supervisor, Manager or Director of problems.
Review QC logs.
Document and collaborate with leadership about errors, omissions or discrepancies in QC.
Compile QA data and prepare reports for leadership.
Monitor proficiency testing activity.
Completes all assigned duties within the required time frame.

Demonstrate awareness of appropriate inventory levels in all relevant sections of the laboratory to prevent supply shortages or overages.

SERVE AS A ROLE MODEL
Maintain confidentiality regarding patient, hospital and laboratory business.
Interact professionally with peers and leadership.
Represent the Laboratory on Hospital committees as needed.
Adhere to abnormal and/or critical results reporting policy and turn-around-time policy.
Participate in and monitor quality assurance indicators.
Adhere to personal appearance standards and display hospital ID badge.
Ensure telephone/internet privileges are followed according to policy.
Comply with attendance and tardiness policy.
Help to monitor subordinate attendance and tardiness.
Adhere to the compliance policy and serve as a resource for subordinate questions.
Adhere to all safety policies as outlined in the Laboratory Safety Manual.


ASSIST LEADERSHIP
Assume supervisory/leadership duties and evaluate problems in the absence of the Supervisor and solves those that are possible.
Communicate challenges with leadership.
Assist leaders in the observation and documentation of laboratory staff competency.
Help Laboratory leadership with staff scheduling.
Purchase supplies to assist leadership.


TRAIN AND DEVELOP
Demonstrate awareness of changes in procedures and protocols in which new procedures are mastered within established time frames.
Perform orientation and training assignments in an organized, thorough manner.
Serve as a resource to peers by sharing knowledge of procedures or testing outcomes.
Develop, perform, and evaluate special projects.
Perform test evaluations and validations of new procedures and/or reagent systems.
Create, author and revise procedures according to CLSI guidelines.
Prepare and deliver student lectures and bench instruction.
Required

Three years' experience as a Medical Technologist required, including two years' experience in the host laboratory preferred
One years' experience in Histocompatibility in an ASHI accredited laboratory required. (only for Tissue Typing Laboratory)
For NY locations/laboratories holding NY state licensures


ONLY:
Six years clinical lab experience required


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
ASCP or equivalent certification in medical technology (MT) or categorical certification preferred.

Certification as a Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT) by the American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ABHI) required (only for Tissue Typing Laboratory).
