Research Senior Technician to assist and support scientific investigation to study transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms of neuronal regeneration and repair following axonal injury, and diabetic neuropathy as directed in Dr. Palmisano Ilarias laboratory in the Department of Neuroscience and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
We are a young lab interested in understanding the response of the chromatin to axonal injury with the long-term goal of identifying key epigenetic and transcriptional pathways that can be targeted to reprogram neurons towards a regenerative/repair state.
The role will independently conducts assigned experiments; performs a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures including RNAseq, ChIPseq, CUTamp;Tag, HiC, PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures, Western analysis, immunohistochemistry; sorts and processes tissue and blood samples; perform cell sorting; tests and evaluates current procedures; performs routine and more skilled procedures on lab animals, genotyping and managing animal colonies; records, consolidates and assists with analysis of research results; assists in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures; summarizes data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts; prepares research progress reports; assists principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts; conducts library research on requested topics through researching current literature; oversees and maintains accurate records of laboratory activities; assists with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation; sets up and operates laboratory equipment; monitors research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiates procurement requests as needed.
Minimum Education and Skills/Experience Required/Desired
A Bachelors degree in a biological/health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. At least 2-3 years of lab experience (4-6 preferred) in mouse work, tissue culture, flow cytometry, and molecular and cellular biology. Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required. Experience in a biological/health research capacity is required. Requires successful completion of a background check. Qualified candidates may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
