    Salary range:
    The salary range for this position is $300,000-$400,000. This position may include membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, which provides for eligibility for additional compensation. The salary range listed is for base compensation only and may be adjusted depending on qualifications and experience. The salary range does not include variable compensation and is subject to the individual department compensation plan.

    Position description

    The Director of the California National Primate Research Center will provide a strong vision and leadership for one of the nation's foremost nonhuman primate national resources whose focus is on advancing research and health through innovative and collaborative approaches to solving complex biomedical research challenges.


    The Director of the CNPRC will have an established research program involving nonhuman primates and a proven record of administrative leadership that values and respects a culture of shared governance.


    The Director is accountable to both the NIH and the University of California for CNPRC administration, including establishing policy and managing administrative functions.


    The Director serves as a liaison with NIH on all matters relating to administration of Center resources including policy development and accountability.


    The Director also provides managerial oversight to ensure the fiscal and operational success of research and administrative functions at the Center and develops and implements long- and short-range Center plans.


    Other responsibilities include encouraging and assisting Center scientific staff in the development of extramural grants and contracts to support research within a coherent vision for the Center.


    The Director serves as a liaison with the University research community and the national scientific community to encourage collaborative research interactions with the Center and establishes research teams to study significant biomedical problems affecting human and animal health.

    The Director also serves as a spokesperson and advocate, promoting the public image of the CNPRC.


    In addition, the incumbent will meet the criteria to be appointed at the Associate or Full Professor rank, in an appropriate academic department within an appropriate School or College at the University of California, Davis.

    Academic faculty responsibilities include clinical service in the area of specialty, as applicable; teaching medical students, residents, and fellows; conducting bench, clinical, and translational research as evidenced by a record of peer-reviewed publications and success in obtaining extramural funding, as applicable; and participation in professional and University service.

    Qualified candidates must possess an MD, PhD, MD/PhD, DVM, DVM/PhD, or equivalent terminal degree, and an academic record commensurate with appointment as Associate Professor or Full Professor in the Regular (Ladder Rank) series in an appropriate academic department at UC Davis.

    A broad understanding of modern biomedical science and commitment to the highest standards of scholarship and professional activities

    Demonstrated collaborative administrative leadership skills

    An active research record in the use of comparative biological models and nonhuman primate research experience

    Deep commitment to the development of a campus climate that supports equality and diversity

    Demonstrated competence in teaching and mentoring

    A recognized reputation for career achievement and leadership

    Experience acquiring external funding, including from NIH, and an ability to secure additional funding for the Center

    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

    Demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial atmosphere

    Understanding of the importance of exemplary animal welfare to the nonhuman primate model
