    The Role

Clinical Child/Adolescent Psychologist for Adolescent Inpatient Unit

Are you a doctoral-level clinical psychologist who thrives in fast-paced, mission-driven inpatient settings? Do you have a passion for working with adolescents experiencing acute emotional and behavioral challenges within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary team? If so, we invite you to explore an exciting opportunity at Brown University Health: Newport Hospital, an affiliated teaching hospital of the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

Newport Hospital recently opened a brand-new Adolescent Behavioral Health Unit, a state-of-the-art, 8-bed inpatient program designed to provide acute stabilization, comprehensive evaluation, and intensive treatment for adolescents with serious emotional and behavioral health needs. This is a unique opportunity to join a newly launched program and play a meaningful role in shaping its clinical culture, treatment model, and interdisciplinary collaboration from the ground up.

    The Role

As a Clinical Child/Adolescent Psychologist on the Adolescent Behavioral Health Unit, you will serve as a core member of the inpatient multidisciplinary team, contributing clinical expertise across assessment, treatment planning, therapy, and milieu support.

    • Serving as a primary clinician providing diagnostic assessments, individual therapy, and family consultation for adolescents ages 12–18.
    • Participating in comprehensive, multidisciplinary evaluations and contributing to collaboratively developed treatment plans.
    • Providing individual, group, and/or family therapy, with models of care emphasizing family-based, developmentally informed approaches.
    • Supporting milieu staff through consultation and guidance on the implementation of therapeutic programming.
    • Treating adolescents presenting with a wide range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, PTSD/trauma, ADHD, self-harm behaviors, and other internalizing and externalizing disorders.
    • Focusing on behavioral stabilization while building coping skills, emotional regulation, and reducing risk for rehospitalization.
    • Collaborating closely with psychiatry, nursing, social work, and allied health professionals to deliver integrated, patient-centered care.

This position is available on a full- or part-time basis.

    What We're Looking For

We are seeking a psychologist who is clinically grounded, team-oriented, and energized by inpatient adolescent work.

    Qualifications include:

    • PhD or PsyD with clinical internship from APA-accredited programs.
    • Licensed or license-eligible in the state of Rhode Island.
    • Postdoctoral experience in acute or inpatient adolescent settings is strongly encouraged.
    • A collaborative professional style and strong interest in treating adolescents with complex psychosocial and diagnostic presentations.
    • Comfort working in high-acuity settings that require flexibility, clinical judgment, and close interdisciplinary coordination.

    Why Join Us?

    • Join a newly established inpatient adolescent unit, offering the opportunity to help shape program development and clinical practices.
    • Work within a supportive, multidisciplinary team committed to evidence-based, family-centered care.
    • Opportunities for teaching and supervision may be available within the broader Brown University Health system.
    • Potential eligibility for a Brown Medical School Clinical Faculty appointment.
    • Collaborative research opportunities may be available.

    What We Offer

    • Competitive salary.
    • Professional allowance for licensure and continuing education, plus professional development days.
    • Excellent benefits, including generous vacation and sick time.
    • 401(k) with 6% employer match (after one year of employment; three-year vesting).
    • Federal loan repayment assistance available.
    • EPIC electronic medical record system with a commitment to ongoing optimization.
    • Diverse patient population, both culturally and economically.
    • A dynamic leadership team that values work-life balance.
