About Clinical Child Psychology:
Clinical child psychology focuses on providing psychological services to infants, toddlers, children, and adolescents, considering their social environment.
Specialized Knowledge:
The field emphasizes understanding the psychological needs of young individuals, and how family and social settings impact their emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and health development.
Addressed Issues:
Specialists in clinical child psychology work on a broad range of interconnected biological, psychological, and social challenges faced by children and adolescents, such as:
- Biological vulnerabilities
- Emotional and developmental issues
- Mental disorders
- Cognitive deficits
- Trauma and grief
- Health-related concerns
- Stress and coping strategies related to growth
- Social context problems
Requirements:
- Must hold a doctoral degree in psychology from an APA-approved program in clinical psychology or an accredited institution meeting Hawaii Administrative Rules standards.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in mental health care for children, particularly those with serious mental illnesses.
- Familiarity with DSM-5 and autism spectrum disorder diagnostic criteria desirable.
- Experience with DC 0-5 criteria beneficial.
- Active or in-progress Hawaii licensure.
- Specialized training in children's assessment and treatment preferred.
- Previous exposure to various children's mental health issues a plus.
- Supervisory background advantageous.
