    Travel Nurse OR - Operating Room in Amarillo, Texas

    We are seeking a travel nurse RN with experience in Operating Room settings for a 13-week assignment in Amarillo, Texas. The ideal candidate will have recent acute care experience as a circulating nurse, and/or scrub nurse, and potentially RN first assistant.

    The Operating Room RN will assist physicians and medical staff in caring for surgical patients, providing pre- and post-surgery care and education to the patient. Responsibilities may include preparing instruments for specific surgical procedures, monitoring and observing the patient during surgery, and responding to potential complications alongside the physician.

    • Provide basic bedside care.
    • Prepare, administer and record prescribed medication, reporting any adverse reactions to treatment.
    • Serve as the communication liaison between patients' family members and members of the operating team.
    • Ensure that the correct procedure(s) is being performed on the correct patient.
    • Initiate patient education plan as prescribed by physician; teach patients and families how to manage medication and home care needs.

    Circulating OR Nurses may also respond to comfort and safety needs of patient, accurately care and handle specimens, monitor equipment used during surgery, and inventory surgical items pre- and post-procedure.

    Scrub OR Nurses may select and handle surgical instruments and supplies during procedures, inventory surgical items pre- and post-procedure.

    RN First Assistants may assist physicians by delivering direct surgical care, help control bleeding, and suture patients following surgery.

    This position requires standing and walking for long periods, bending, leaning, and stooping without difficulty. Lifting 20 pounds is easy, but moving or lifting patients may require up to 50 pounds at times. Exposure to chemicals or infectious diseases in the operating room environment is possible.

    Requirements: BLS, ACLS, 2 years of experience.

    The pay package is based on 8 hour shifts and 40 hours per week, with a tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
