    Summer Camp Lead Job Description

    The Summer Camp Lead is responsible for providing leadership, guidance, and effective communication while maintaining the well-being and safety of summer camp participants and support staff.

    This role requires a high energy individual who genuinely enjoys working with children and is team-oriented.

    The Summer Camp Lead assists the Summer Camp Director in planning, implementing, and facilitating a structured daily schedule.

    Essential Functions:
    1. Supervises and manages Summer Camp Aides, helping them develop and grow in supportive roles.
    2. Supervises a group of children alongside Summer Camp Site Directors, ensuring their overall health and well-being. Provides careful, attentive supervision at all times.
    3. Takes group attendance daily.
    4. Maintains campsite and equipment daily.
    5. Plans and implements engaging program activities that are developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
    6. Adheres to program standards regarding safety, cleanliness, and licensing protocol.
    7. Able to attend and participate in scheduled field trips and off-site activities.
    8. Attends training and staff meetings with Summer Camp leadership.
    9. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical emergencies, behavior policy implementation, child abuse prevention, and emergency situations.
    10. Cultivates positive relationships and effectively communicates with parents, children, and other staff members, modeling positive relationship-building skills in all interactions.
    11. Maintains ongoing communication with the Summer Camp Director.
    12. Sets up for and cleans up after all camp activities.
    13. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:
    1. Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
    2. High School Diploma or equivalent.
    3. Six months of programmatic experience with children, preferably in a camp setting.
    4. Must complete 24 hours of training to meet the licensing standards of a licensed child day center.
    5. Preferred CPR/First-Aid certification. If not certified, will receive training through the YMCA.
    6. Exceptional group management, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
    7. Experience creating, planning, and facilitating interactive and educational/artistic activities relating to youth development, physical fitness, and academic enrichment.
    8. Must possess speaking, listening, and writing skills appropriate for interacting with children and adults.
    9. Must be capable of implementing directives related to the daily program.
    10. Must have flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
    11. Demonstrate a working knowledge of the YMCA mission, purpose, and goals, childcare policies, and YMCA standards; ensure the program meets the highest standards of excellence.
