- Understanding the project requirements, scope of work, and deliverables
- Providing leadership in taking a wholistic view of the project and making independent project level decisions that are trusted by the engineers
- Preparing detail and layout drawings and sketches of unusual, complex, or original designs requiring the application of theoretical and practical engineering knowledge
- Performing discipline design tasks which regularly require the application of fundamental engineering concept with limited input and direction from the engineer or architect
- Providing conceptual input to projects during the planning stages
- Delegating and supervising tasks assigned to Designers and Technicians
- Coordinating design with other disciplines and coordinates work sharing within team
- Ensuring output is professional, consistent with prevailing standards and satisfies project requirements
- Interfacing with other departments, clients, vendors, and project engineers in order to support project production
- Providing training, guidance and mentorship to staff
- Participating in interviewing other positions on this ladder and makes hiring recommendations
- Performing quality control on deliverables and incorporating continuous improvement into work processes.
- Developing and implementing new processes as required to ensure consistent quality
- Potentially leading BIM/CAD activities on projects
- Potentially managing BIM/CAD library for discipline
- Potentially managing BIM/CAD staff
- 12+ years' experience in BIM/CAD drafting and design with a broad base in engineering design and technical support of engineering
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Associate's degree in BIM/CAD
