    JOB SUMMARY

    Endoscopy RN is a valuable member of Perioperative, Endoscopy and Surgical team. Responsibilities of an Endoscopy RN include, but are not limited, to checking patients in upon their arrival to Perioperative Services, initiating peripheral IV, completing medication reconciliation, providing teaching, assisting with positioning for procedure, administering and monitoring moderate sedation as needed per policy, assisting with endoscopic procedures and specimen collection.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    Minimum Education
    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current BLS, ACLS and proficiency in peripheral IV insertion required.
    Minimum Licenses and Certifications
    • Current RN license in MA.
    Minimum Work Experience
    • Prior endoscopy experience strongly preferred. In the absence of endoscopy experience minimum other experience, such as 1 year of recent Med/Surg, ED, ICU, OR, peri-operative or OB will be considered.
    Required Skills
    • Excellent communication, critical care and critical thinking skills are must.Willingness to cross train within peri-operative services preferred.
    • Must be able to take call per departmental needs
    FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS

    Physical Requirements:

    Exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Frequently reaches (extending hands and arms in any direction), handles (seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or working with hands), and feels (perceiving attributes of items such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by means of fingertips). Occasionally stoops (bending the body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist), and kneels (bending the legs at knee to come to rest on knee or knees).

    • Initiates and administers IV's in accordance with physician orders and nursing policy and procedure to support required treatment.
    • Observes and documents patients' response to intravenous therapy.
    • Safely administers and monitors patients receiving blood and blood products according to policy and procedure and observes and documents patients response to blood transfusions
    • Assesses and reassesses patients undergoing endoscopy procedures and documents patient care in the Meditech NUR Module.
    • Monitors and observes patients continuously during endoscopy procedures giving special attention to oxygenation, ventilation and heart rate and rhythm.
    • Administers IV conscious sedation safely and in accordance with physician orders and nursing policy and procedure.
    • Initiates and safely administers chemotheraptic agents in accordance with physician orders and nursing policies, procedures and protocols.
    • Monitors and observes patients receiving chemotherapy and documents patient responses to treatments.
    • Responsible for obtaining supporting information and completing required documentation related to medication reconciliation for use by the Attending MD.
    • All employees with direct patient contact are responsible for actively engaging in the practice of, monitoring and enforcing compliance to hand hygiene.
    • Float within perioperative services as needed.
