    Description
    The City of Garden City is accepting applications for Registrar with the Lee Richardson Zoo.

    This position is responsible for maintenance of records, permits, and related reports and correspondence; coordinating/assisting with animal transfers; and directed research and purchasing.

    Responsible for all data entry in animal records software (transactions, animal behavior, enrichment, animal inventory, animal training, etc. into ZIMS, Tracks, or similar software,), and provides computer assistance for animal and maintenance divisions. Reports to and takes direction from Deputy Director.


    • Represents Zoo in a professional capacity as "Registrar." Maintains animal records (i.e. Species 360 - ZIMS) software and inputs animal transaction and other pertinent data to database. Keeps animal transaction files and animal inventory current and organized. Compiles annual animal inventory; assists with monthly and annual reports. Responsible for management of the zoo's historical animal archives.
    • Maintains required Federal, State and Local permits necessary for the exhibition, maintenance and transport of wildlife in accordance with regulations. Files annual federal and state reports and renews permits as needed.
    • Coordinates animal transactions (shipping, permits, billing, health and husbandry forms). Maintains loan agreements, contracts, etc., and updates annually.
    • Works with local/national technical assistance to keep animal data software updated and running properly. Troubleshoots zoo's computer network for operations office, animal care staff, and maintenance team.
    • Researches goods, services and information to increase fiscal and work efficiency of division. Procures general supplies for animal care division. Tracks costs and usage of supplies as requested.
    • Verifies keeper hours for payroll; computes payroll in absence of administrative assistant.
    • Assists staff with husbandry/animal management issues by accessing appropriate reports from the appropriate database. Monitors collection activity for compliance with policies and procedures and advises Deputy Director or Animal Care Manager of problems and progress. Participates with administrative, curatorial and other staff in implementing and reviewing collection management objectives.
    • Coordinates and communicates with other zoo teams, HR and other city departments. Works with and trains animal staff to improve records accuracy. Coordinates annual training (fire extinguisher, first aide, CPR) and TB testing. Assists with new employee orientation. Transcribes reports from meetings (staff, safety, ACUC, etc....) and emergency drills. Maintains records required for AZA accreditation regarding staff training and certification on issues related to safety, emergency drills, weapons, and immobilization team training.
    • Serves as institutional liaison to Species 360. Submits data, analyzes and disseminates data received from Species 360. Serves as liaison between zoo and outside organizations, institutions, and committees. Assists in the zoo's Species Survival Plan participation through correspondence, surveys, and computer data.
    • Maintains enrichment and animal training databases.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    Knowledge of modern office equipment and procedures. Skills in typing, filing, word processing, data entry, i.e. specifically Microsoft Office. Basic knowledge of biology, animal husbandry, relevant terminology, and zoo operations including permits and regulations/standards is beneficial.

    Ability to communicate and interact professionally with other City employees and officials, representatives from other zoos and aquariums, those involved with animal transportation, state and federal agency personnel.

    Ability to meet deadlines, follow multiple instructions and multi-task.

    Education, Certification and Experience:
    Requires a minimum of an Associate Degree in records management, business, one of the life sciences, or a related field and 2 years of experience working in an office or in an AZA accredited Zoo or equivalent combination of training, education and experience; Valid Kansas Driver's license required

    Environment:

    Work is performed primarily indoors under controlled conditions, as well as outdoors if assistance is needed with animal procedures or to support the zoo or special events.

    a variety of surfaces including: carpet, tile, soil, grass, concrete.


    Physical Characteristics:


    Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally, sit, stand, walk, hear, speak, see, write, read, reach, bend, kneel, type, drive, push and pull.
