    The Opportunity

    The position of Supervisor, Night Shift Operations is within our Toxicology division located at Richmond, VA . The individual filling this position will be overseeing day to day operations on the night shift 10 PM - 6:30 AM Tuesday - Saturday for the screening, extractions, LC-GC and certification departments; and maintaining acceptable performance in testing of urine and oral fluids in all testing areas. The laboratory performs initial screen and confirmation testing of urine and oral fluid specimens in a high volume, production environment. This position will be required to perform initial data review of analysis in the LC-GC department and final certification and release of results in the certification department.

    What You'll Work On

  • Coordinate duties of personnel, including issuing assignments and making work schedules.
  • Daily supervision of personnel in their screening, extraction, confirmations and certification procedures.
  • Ensuring training files of employees are complete and contain all required credentials and items specified in SOP.
  • Evaluate employee competencies in the testing procedures and reagent preparation.
  • Counsel employees when SOPS or corporate policies are violated.
  • Train new employees on all procedures and current employees on new procedures.
  • Review, certify and release confirmation test results of urine and oral fluid specimens as needed.
  • Knowledge of testing methodologies (LC-MS/MS, GC/MS, Immunoassay - EIA, ELISA).
  • Legal testimony to laboratory results as needed.
  • Enforce and adhere to all security procedures for ensuring confidentiality of donor information.
  • Enforce and adhere to all established guidelines outlined in Alere's Employee Handbook.
  • Must comply with company policies.
  • Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or life science.
  • Experience with human sample preparation for GC/MS and LC-MS/MS analysis.
  • Experience with instrument operation and data review for GC/MS and LC-MS/MS.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant laboratory experience post bachelor's degree OR 2 years post master's degree.
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced ability to understand analytical methods and procedures.
  • Advanced ability to understand and operate laboratory instrumentation.
  • Advanced ability to understand certification requirements for SAMHSA, CAP-FDT, and other relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Advanced ability to understand the function of a Laboratory Information System (LIS) and other laboratory computer systems.
  • Toxicology experience would be helpful.
