    Overview:

    The Director, Federal Affairs directs and executes ACOGs federal affairs legislative strategy to advance ACOGs priorities and serves as a liaison to elected officials, key stakeholders, and staff at the federal level. Cultivate bipartisan champions among key decisionmakers in government by influencing, advising, and consulting with Members of Congress and their staff, federal agencies, medical societies, and other health organizations.

    Responsibilities:

    Monitor, analyze and influence federal legislation and regulations impacting obstetrician-gynecologists and their patients.
    Identify legislative and regulatory priorities in collaboration with senior leadership.
    Develop and implement strategies for legislative and administrative action on a portfolio of topics and issues of importance to ACOG.
    Develop communications on ACOG policy issues and initiatives for members, congressional, federal agency, partner and public audience, including, but not limited to testimony, legislation, action alerts, talking points, fact sheets, public statements, regulatory comments, advisory committee nominations. Oversee similar efforts by other federal affairs staff.
    Establish and maintain contacts with key health care staff in Congress, White House, and federal agencies.
    Arrange, lead, and attend meetings with members of Congress and their staff; federal agency and White House staff.
    Plan and attend Capitol Hill and Administration events including committee hearings, markups, briefings, Hill days, press conferences and Advisory Council meetings.
    Assist in the planning and coordination the annual legislative conference and other assigned meetings.
    Advise Ob-GynPAC Governing Committee and Government Affairs Committee.
    Represent ACOG in coalitions and workgroups with national medical and patient associations to advance ACOGs policy priorities.
    Provide leadership, direction, and management of staff, including fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment through supervising staff, providing feedback, coaching, support, mentoring, performance management, and training and development opportunities as appropriate.
    Conduct policy analysis and research to advance ACOGs policy priorities.
    Stay abreast of new and emerging health care issues in the interest of ACOG.
    Analyze and respond to legislative and regulatory activities in collaboration with internal departments and divisions.
    Attend political fundraisers.
    Review periodicals, the Federal Register, congressional committee activities, Administration activities, advisory committee opportunities, and other items of relevance to identify issues of relevance to ACOG and determine how to respond and engage with identified opportunities.
    Write advocacy newsletter articles.
    Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    Bachelors Degree required.
    10 years of related experience, including experience in lobbying, health care, membership advocacy, or Hill experience.
    Knowledge and deep understanding of the legislative and regulatory process.
    Must have minimum of three years of supervisory experience.
    Must have budget management experience.
    Strong writing, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
    Must be able to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects.
    Must be able to work well independently and as part of a team.
    Must be comfortable with public speaking and representing ACOG on Capitol Hill, before federal agency officials, and presenting to ACOG members.
    Must be adept at writing, reviewing, and distilling complex legislative and regulatory policies and translating for lay audiences.
    Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers and ACOG fellows; tact, diplomacy, and good judgment are necessary.
    Flexibility and adaptability to changing daily activities and schedules.
    Ability to travel.
