    Description
    Summary You will serve as a QUALITY ASSURANCE SPECIALIST (SHIPBUILDING) in the Quality Assurance Department of SUPSHIP GULF COAST. You will serve as the Machinery Subject Matter Expert for the Quality Assurance Department located in Mobile, AL.

    You will be responsible for coordinating SUPSHIP QA efforts to monitor contractor's compliance to the Navy and commercial standards and specification for machinery, shafting, alignment applications, and inspection for ship construction and repair.

    Duties * You will perform machinery procedure reviews, conduct independent surveys, focus audits and provide in process inspections, and witness contractor testing and evaluation on main propulsion and electrical power generation diesel engines and systems.

    * You will review and monitor contractors systems for qualifying personnel, procedures, equipment, and vendors; reviews contractors testing procedures and results.

    * You will provide on-site technical assistance to other SUPSHIP Gulf Coast groups, Project Offices, and QA Divisions as directed.

    * You will be responsible for maintaining the SUPSHIP Gulf Coast Machinery program by training, testing, and certifying Navy personnel; maintaining qualification and testing records.

    * You will also evaluate personnel performance; issuing periodic compendia of certification status; and performing audits of SUPSHIP branches and project offices.

    * You will develop the departments professional and technical resources by developing, conducting and reviewing additional internal training programs within the technical, industrial, and professional specialties and areas of expertise.

    * You will act as the Commands primary resource for preparing for ship and craft testing and trials by providing leadership, participation and technical assistance in the conduct and monitoring of advanced ship systems tests and trials.

    * You will function as a member of simulated Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) during Builder's Trials; assisting the INSURV Board during Acceptance Trials.

    * You will be knowledge of the operations and practices of commercial shipbuilding contractors and an understanding of individual contracts, inspection requirements, equipment and materials, and engineering and production functions.

    * You will possess a broad knowledge of machinery principals, practices, and theories combined with an extensive knowledge in diesel engine theory, operation, construction, maintenance, overhaul, and repair.

    * You will be experienced with nondestructive test methods including: Visual Testing, Magnetic Particle Testing, and Liquid Penetrant Testing.

    Requirements Conditions of Employment * This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.

    You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. * Must be a US Citizen. * Must be determined suitable for federal employment. * Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.

    Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the grade level GS-11 or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.


    Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

    conducting quality assurance (QA) inspections, assessments, audits, or surveys of contractor performance, machinery, systems, or processes to ensure compliance with established QA requirements and standards in support of shipbuilding operations.
