Budget Title:
Senior Staff Associate (SL-5)
The director of Male Scholars Initiative, under the supervision of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, offers strategic direction to improve the academic success, retention, and graduation rate of undergraduate men at Binghamton University.
The incoming director will use data-driven, research-based decision-making, and a strengths-based modeled approach to student success, and facilitate collaborations across campus to provide programs and services that proactively empower students to succeed and support the University's goals of increasing the retention, graduation, participation in high-impact practices, career outcomes, and wellbeing of male students.
The director will work closely with the directors of Intercultural Affairs, Student Affairs, Student Transition and Success, Educational Opportunity Program and other university constituencies to build close collaborations with campus partners across divisions, including University Tutorial Services, Academic Affairs and advising offices, Financial Aid, Admissions, New Student Programs and others.
The director also will help support the division's Vice President.The director will be responsible for envisioning, designing, and executing the initiative, which includes program development, planning, and implementation, including establishing strategy, initiatives and programmatic goals and objectives, and assessment measures.
Consult with the Office of Institutional Research; and others across campus to develop longitudinal and track key performance indicators to improve performance outcomes and adjust as needed, collect, analyze, and report data, and identify key performance indicators for continuous improvement.
Works cooperatively with colleges and departments on programs that support undergraduates including Student Transition and Success, University Tutorial Services, Academic Affairs and academic advising offices, Financial Aid, Admissions, New Student Programs, and others to include developing a pipeline for graduate school.
Serves as a point of contact and provides coaching on a walk-in or appointment basis and makes referrals to the Student Transition and Success Office or other appropriate campus resources, school advising offices, academic departments, Fleishman Career Center, CARE Team, and other resources as necessary, and provides relevant presentations to students.
Develops, oversees and assesses programs and services that are informed by best practices in higher education to improve retention and graduation rates and empower undergraduates to succeed academically.
Supports student success (retention, graduation, participation in high-impact practices).Men of Color Summit)
Teach one FYE course per academic year; conduct workshops and presentations to departments and student organizations.
Stays abreast of developments in the field of student persistence and academic success.
May supervise graduate student or peer mentors.
Serves on University committees as appropriate.
Assists the vice president with occasional projects.
Occasional evening, night or weekend work required.
Effective project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to bridge academic and student affairs partnerships
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database applications
D. in higher education, social psychology, counseling, social work or related field OR a Ph.
D. with demonstrated work experience).
Experience leading a similar program, or previous experience in student affairs /academic affairs to include program development; demonstrated experience in meeting the needs of college students from diverse backgrounds, including first-generation college students; Ability to interpret and analyze data and make data-driven, data-informed decisions
