    Summary

    This job position provides Prudhoe Bay field support for the multiple site contract teams.It reports directly to the Process & Process Safety (PPS) Engineering staff based in Anchorage.Work involves on-site field evaluation of process and equipment scenarios as relates to hazard analysis calculations and flare modeling.It provides field data for Anchorage Engineers who manage the field-wide compliance effort.As such, the position is based at Prudhoe Bay on a 12-hour shift, 2-week rotational schedule.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Basic responsibility is to provide clarity on engineering or operating details that cannot be gleaned from a P&ID or written process description in the Anchorage office.
    • Walk down P&IDS to insure accuracy or resolve discrepancies.
    • Draw simple, dimensional isometric sketches of PSV and flare piping configurations.
    • Gather nameplate data on equipment including PSV's, valves, pumps, turbines, compressors, vessels, heat exchangers, pig launchers etc.
    • Gather current and historical process data including pressures, temperatures, flow rates, liquid levels, etc.
    • Verify operating procedures/conditions of particular processes.
    • Evaluate process equipment and communicate how it works.
    • Evaluate Shutdown Logic, Cause and Effect Tables and Operating Limit Tables.
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Education/Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering required.
    • Minimum five (5) years directly related working experience required.
    • Minimum one (1) year experience working on north slope in similar role required.
    • Familiarity with Prudhoe Bay Operating Facilities including Gather Centers, Flow Stations, Well Pads and Drill Sites (easily attainable within a couple of months).
    • Entry level engineering skills, ability to read a basic P&ID and walk down the process in the field.
    • Ability to work independently without direct field supervision.
    • Ability to climb ladders and stairs to gather data.Locations are sometimes in tight, noisy, dimly lit areas. A person with acrophobia or claustrophobia might be uncomfortable.
    • Willingness to communicate with Operators, Facility Team Leads and Facility On-site Process Safety Specialist (former Facility Engineer).
    • Ability to navigate BPX computer data tools including EDDI, MESE, MEL, MOC, PSV Mgmt, WINGUI, etc.
    • Ability to drive and work outside in cold weather Arctic environment, within BPX safety policy.Good judgment of one's tolerance for the cold and ability to drive in harsh weather/road conditions is essential.Much field-wide travel is required, as high as 350 miles, roughly 15-20 hours per 2-week shift.
