    Description

    The Historic New Orleans Collection (THNOC) is a museum, research center, and publisher dedicated to the study and preservation of the history and culture of New Orleans and the Gulf South region. The Collection is currently accepting resumes for the position of shop associate.

    The shop associate position is responsible for shop sales, including processing phone and e-commerce orders. This position shares the responsibility of tagging and re-stocking merchandise and maintaining an orderly and clean workplace. The shop associate is also responsible for accuracy in handling money, entering sales onto the POS system, and reconciling the end of day money and reports. Additionally, this position completes projects and tasks related to the improvement of the shop when customers are not in the store. The shop associate represents THNOC to the public by communicating information about merchandise, programs, events, and exhibits.

    The ideal candidate must have a minimum of one year of sales associate experience, including experience in using a POS system. The successful candidate shall possess exceptional customer service and communication skills and an ability to resolve problems while working under minimal supervision. This position regularly moves products up to 20 pounds to 50 pounds.

    This is a full-time position working Thursday through Sunday and Tuesday. The work hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The shop associate must be flexible with his/her work schedule for the purpose of supporting THNOC events and meetings.     Job Summary:

    The Sales Associate welcomes customers, guides them to products, answers questions, processes sales, and ensures all guests have an exceptional experience while at THNOC's shop.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Welcomes public customers into The Shop
    • Provides guests with information on products
    • Drives sales through engagement of customers, suggestive selling, and sharing product knowledge
    • Promotes special sales, offers, exhibits, and awareness of THNOC membership program
    • Maintains store cleanliness.
    • Assists with all team projects and tasks
    • Flexible schedule to support THNOC events.
    Required Job Qualifications

    Education:
    • High school diploma or GED equivalent
    Experience:
    • Minimum of 1 year of retail experience
    Knowledge, Skills Abilities:
    • Excellent customer service
    • Excellent people skills
    • Team player
    • Verbal and written communication
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office 365
    • Familiarity with POS systems
    • Good physical condition with ability to lift 50 pounds.

    While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position, move throughout the properties and in other settings, operate a computer and other office machinery, ascend/descend and traverse heights and low levels, position self to work at workstation and in small areas, and monitor the movement of or personally move objects of varying levels. This position may require climbing, standing, bending, stooping, typing, or regularly moving objects of up to 25 pounds to 50 pounds. This position consistently communicates with public customers and others and observes, inspects, and assesses inventory and sales documents/information.
