- Manages HSS Support team.
- Back-up to HSS Manager in their absence.
- Manages schedules and responsibilities for contracted security personnel.
- Responsible for orientation and onboarding all new hires in safety.
- Conducts safety audit and inspections.
- Conducts investigations and reports.
- Ensures annual regulatory and mandatory safety training is completed on time and in compliance with OSHA and company-specific requirements.
- Assists HSS Manager in the maintenance, review and update of all HSS policies or technical documents, Safety and Environmental Management Programs, training Materials and technical guidance.
- Supports the implementation and ensures compliance for effective HSS policies and programs in accordance with Company standards and governmental regulations.
- Provides expertise and guidance to improve HSS processes. Discovers, shares and communicates best practices.
- Coordinates resources, both internal and external, for HSS related programs and/or projects.
- Ensures HSS is part of PDI's operational process and complies with all Company standards and governmental regulations.
- Communicates direction to direct reports and holds department accountable for adherence to plant direction and policy.
- Participates in conferences and meetings. Facilitates interactive discussions and actionable outcomes.
- Prepares, maintains and submits records and reports required by the Company, OSHA and any other regulatory agencies, i.e. OSHA 300 log and injury records. Perform trend analysis on information.
- Maintains all MSDS's for the site.
- Lead a Zero Loss journey through Loss Analysis on HSS related issues.
- Trains and maintains an effective emergency response team to ensure appropriate response in the even of an emergency incident.
- Monitors and controls expenditures with the approved budget.
- Partners with HSS Manager in administering worker's compensation claims for the site and return to work program.

- Highschool degree or equivalent required, Bachelor's degree in related field preferred
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in an HSS capacity within a manufacturing site.
- People management experience required.
- Knowledge, understanding, skills and abilities to execute US based HSS legislation and regulatory requirements for OSHA, EPA, etc.
- IDEM knowledge preferred but not required
- Previous experience with TPM, Lean Six Sigma and High-Performance Work Systems preferred.
- Knowledge, understanding, skills and abilities of hazard identification and risk assessment methodologies. Examples: Gemba/Hazard recognition walks, Behavior based observation systems, PDCA, risk assessments, near misses, leading vs. lagging indicators.
- Strong leadership and change management abilities.
- Proficiency in Word, Outlook and the use of Internet for research and development.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Experience working in a union environment a plus.
- Operational responsibility 24/7/365 will require flexibility in schedule, regarding both time of day and day of week. Interaction across all shifts and crews is critical to the success of this role.
