About the Role

This role will be primarily tasked with executing compliance and monitoring/surveillance programs including ground water sampling, storm water sampling, radon/radiation sampling, site inspections, geotechnical inspections, coordinating laboratory analysis, managing site data, data validation and QA/QC.

Secondary activities will also include identifying and executing site maintenance tasks, coordinating and overseeing contractors for site maintenance works and supporting emergency response and preparedness for the site and recording managing site records.

Accountabilities

Execute the prescribed monitoring described in the site Operations, Maintenance, and Surveillance Manual as well as any other supplementary monitoring for the site.

Conduct storm water monitoring, groundwater monitoring, geotechnical monitoring, biological monitoring, radon/radiation monitoring, and other environmental and site related tasks, as assigned.

Coordinate shipping, chain of custody records, and data management for environmental samples.

Conduct Quality control and assurance of site environmental monitoring data and support development and revision of the site monitoring plans and programs.

Ensure tailings management and environmental requirements are addressed in all phases of planning and project execution
Preparation/review of technical documents and reports.
Operation of drones and other surveillance tools to inspect and manage the site.

Understand and support compliance with all local legislation and regulations as well as local asset procedures including safety, health, environment and community and associated corporate reporting.

Risk assess work activities and ensure actions are taken to enable safe work execution and are documented according to BHP's HSE framework requirements.

Execute reactive, planned and scheduled equipment maintenance using standard processes and systems.
As needed, support execution of operations activities including occasional operation of heavy equipment
Follow maintenance schedules and record equipment maintenance history and work activities in the business systems
About You

This is a unique role where the employee will be required to understand and execute technical tasks associated with the environmental and geotechnical management of the site but will also be required to conduct site maintenance including operating heavy equipment and supervising contractors.

The role will involve an extensive variety of work including job planning, extensive work outdoors, review of technical data, operation of heavy equipment, management of contractors, operation of drones, technical report writing, and many other diverse tasks.

A minimum of 3 years' experience working in an environmental, engineering, technology role in a heavy industrial or mining work setting.

Diploma or degree in science or engineering is highly regarded
Operating and site field experience including safety, health and environment.
Experience with water quality monitoring including groundwater and surface water sampling.
Experience operating drones is desirable but not required
Experience operating any heavy equipment or stationary infrastructure will be highly regarded but is not required
Experience with environmental data management systems is desirable but not required
Physically fit and capable of extensive work outdoors
Knowledge of environmental monitoring techniques and practices including groundwater sampling and storm water management practices
Technical writing skills
Solid interpersonal skills to interact and maintain effective relationships with contractors, regulators and community stakeholders.
Knowledge of New Mexico and US environmental regulations and best practices
Proficient in the MS Office suite
Computer use and record management
