- Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood specimens from patients of all ages.
- Verify patient identity and collect relevant medical information to ensure accurate labeling and documentation of specimens.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper disposal of biohazardous materials and adherence to infection control protocols.
- Interact with patients in a courteous and professional manner, explaining procedures and alleviating any fears or concerns they may have.
- Handle specimens with care to prevent contamination or mislabeling, following established laboratory procedures and safety guidelines.
- Prepare specimens for transportation to the laboratory, ensuring timely delivery and proper handling to maintain sample integrity.
- Assist in maintaining inventory of phlebotomy supplies and equipment, restocking as needed to ensure uninterrupted service.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and timely processing of laboratory specimens and results.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with best practices and advancements in phlebotomy techniques and technology.
- Uphold patient confidentiality and privacy rights at all times, adhering to HIPAA regulations and ethical standards.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a phlebotomy training program or certification preferred.
- Proven experience as a Phlebotomist in a healthcare setting, with proficiency in venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to accurately label specimens and maintain thorough documentation.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and basic laboratory procedures, including specimen handling and processing.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively to meet deadlines.
- Commitment to maintaining patient safety and confidentiality, with a strong understanding of infection control protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed to support patient care services.
- CPR certification may be required, depending on the employer's policies and state regulations.
