    POSITIONUpper School NurseREPORTS TOThe School Nurse will report to the Upper School Principal.
    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITYProvides preventive health services to facilitate the students' optimal physical, mental,emotional and social growth and development.

    Identifies problems and disabilities andprovides such services as case finding, health education, referring and care in order to helpprevent serious health problems which would later be more difficult and costly to address.

    Supports the education process by working to assure the health of the students.


    QUALIFICATIONSEducational and Experience Requirements:
    Minimum Requirements1. Qualified to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Indiana2. Certified in CPR or BLS (or obtain in the first 6 months)3. Demonstrate a continuing sense of God's direction in working at Traders Point ChristianSchools4. Abide by decisions of the Board of Directors and administration of Traders PointChristian Schools5. Maintain ministry partnership6. Agree to and sign the Traders Point Christian Schools Statement of FaithAgency Recommendations1. B.S.N. or Registered Nurse license with a bachelor's degree in a related discipline2.

    Minimum of one (1) year experience in public health nursing, community health nursing,school health nursing or pediatric nursing, or minimum of five (5) years of experience inanother field of nursingDemonstrated Knowledge1.

    Principles and practices underlying professional nursing2. Principles and practices underlying the special field of school health3. Current trends in nursing and of literature in the fields of school health4. Organization and administration of other cooperating agencies5. State and local laws relating to health and social issuesDemonstrated Abilities1. Participate cooperatively in a program of school health nursing2. Exercise professional judgment in making decisions3. Communicate appropriately and effectively with students, parents, administrators, otherschool personnel and healthcare providers4. Demonstrate a genuine interest in the student population and its health needs5. Organize a clinic and manage time6. Be a self-starter and/or self-motivated7.

    Proficient in Microsoft Office and able to work with various software applicationsQualifying Characteristics:

    The teacher has a clearly biblical testimony of salvation with an authentic and a mature personal relationship with Jesus Christ in both their professional and personal life with a calling and commitment to Christian education.

    The ideal teacher must have the desire to work closely and nurture a positive relationship with students, teachers, parents, staff, school administrators and community members.

    The teacher must demonstrate respect for all students and community members.

    The ability to exercise good judgment, set a good example and comply with school standards is a must as well as the ability to deal with sensitive and confidential issues in a tactful and professional manner.

Provides health assessmentsa. Obtains a health historyb. Screens and evaluates findings of deficit in vision, hearing, growth anddevelopment, etc.c. Observes the child for development and health patterns in making nursingassessmentd. Identifies abnormal health findings4. Develops and implements a student health plana. Interprets the health status of students to parents and school personnelb. Initiates referral to parents, school personnel or community health resources forintervention, remediation and follow throughc. Provides ongoing health counseling with students, parents, school personnel orhealth agenciesd. Utilizes existing health resources to provide appropriate care of students5. Maintains, evaluates and interprets cumulative health data to accommodate individualneeds of students6. Plans and implements school health management protocols7. Develops procedures and provides for emergency nursing management forinjuries/illnesses8. Collaborates with school safety coordinator in assessing, planning, implementing, andevaluating emergency preparedness plans9. Promotes and assists in the control of communicable diseasesa. Monitors and maintains student immunization recordsb. Abides by state requirements for communicating health information oncommunicable diseases10. Provides health education and anticipatory guidancea.

    Provides direct health education, and health counseling to assist students andfamilies in making decisions on health and lifestyles that affect health.b.

    Participates in health education directly and indirectly for the improvement of healthby teaching persons to become more assertive health consumers and to assumegreater responsibility for their own health.c.

    Serves as a resource person to the school staff members in health instruction.11. Coordinates school and community health activities and serves as a liaison healthprofessional between the home, school and community12. Acts as a resource person in promoting health careers13.

    Engages in research and evaluation of school health services to act as a change agent forschool health programs and school nursing practices14.

    Provides consultation in the formation of health policies, goals and objectives for the schooldistrict15.

    Where applicable, participates in the IEP plan developmentPhysical Requirements:
