    Overview

    Dr. Richard Izquierdo Health & Science Charter School is seeking an experienced, flexible and creative Librarian to support the growth and development of the school's library and culture of reading. The Librarian collaborates with teachers in the development of student literacy through the administration of the library media program, provides specialized instruction to students and teachers, and oversees the selection, organization, utilization, and maintenance of library, information, and resources. The right candidate should possess maturity, dedication, high integrity, and good judgment, ability to self-reflect as a member of the faculty, and the courage to grow as an educational leader.     Responsibilities

    • Establish and take initiative to foster a library culture that encourages appreciation of literature.
    • Serve as an advocate for the school's library programs and services by utilizing a variety of communication and technology tools.
    • Provide opportunities for students to use the library for class-related research, individual investigation, independent reading, and personal inquiry.
    • Continually rotates, replaces, and updates displays of books and student work to reflect current curricular themes.
    • Participate in school, department, and grade-level curriculum development, when appropriate
    • Create a scope and sequence for skills and knowledge our students will attain in using a library/reading throughout their 6-12 experience at our school and how the plan will be implemented
    • Assess student and teacher needs and interests to determine book orders
    • Continuously reviews professional publications to keep up-to-date on current print and non-print resources
    • Develop and maintains relationships with book vendors as appropriate
    • Stay up-to-date on the latest technologies and their use for teaching and learning.
    • Organize the library in logical Dewey Decimal System order for ease of access to resources.
    • Arrange the library for variety of uses by large groups, small groups, and individuals
    • Provide book talks and reading consultations for teachers and students
    • Assist teachers and students in the use of library and media resources
    • Cover classes and proctor assessments from time to time

    Library Program Administration

    • Promote use of the library to teachers, students, and parents to ensure that the library is a vital and active center of learning for the whole school.
    • Follow a library use schedule, in consultation with appropriate school leaders, that facilitates open and flexible access as well as strong instructional use
    • Lead classes on a weekly basis to ensure all students learn how to use the library and have the opportunity to do so
    • Provide open access and advertise time every day for students to check out resources
    • Ensure that all students have public library cards so they can access the resources of the public library
    • Maintain fair and consistent circulation and use policies
    • Documents use of library and library computers by classes and individuals
    • Submit weekly lesson plans for hosting classes in the library, with a clear focus on them learning library skills while in your class

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred
    • Previous experience running a school-wide initiative to invest students in reading
    • Highly organized and efficient
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Strong verbal and written skills

    None

    Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

    This is a full-time 12-month position. The regular hours and workdays are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in addition to any special events to which all staff are expected to attend.

    Salary Range

    $70,000 - $80,000 annually (Based on Experience)
